I have finished 2 / 4 of the Neapolitan Quartet by #ElenaFerrante and I really like it. I like that the narrative clearly takes its time and that we get to know our two main characters, Lenu & Lila, very intimately. Yesterday, book 3 & 4 arrived, so I‘m fully stacked now!

Happy Easter 🐣🐰 to all fellow #Littens! Did the Easter bunny bring you something special?

I got lots of chocolate, a new pillow for my sofa 🛋 and #MyBrilliantFriend by #ElenaFerrante. I heard so much praise for it! 📕

The Lost Daughter | Elena Ferrante
Pickpick

I read this because I‘m getting #MyBrilliantFriend for Easter 🐣 and Olivia Coleman can do no wrong.

I didn‘t expect it to be so dark! It‘s about a mother who left her children for 3 years, used that time to really become a person again and doesn‘t regret it. This topic is still a big taboo, so I‘m glad it was used here.

This book lived up to my expectations--Ferrante develops the tempestuous friendship between Elena and Lila with subtlety and complexity, never overlooking the treachery that underlies their genuine loyalty. Told in a series of fairly brief chapters, My Brilliant Friend paints a vivid picture of the poverty-stricken village in which the girls grow up and from which Elena wishes to escape. I'm really looking forward to watching the series now!

While I've always been a reader I am new to the world of booktube and bookstagram. So I had not heard the hype over Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend and her three other Neopolitan Novels. It came as a 'brilliant' surprise to me. The simple, beautiful writing and addictive story line had me hooked. I read all four in about 2 weeks and haven't stopped thinking about them since. #elenaferrante #mybrilliantfriend #italy

The oppression, village politics and expectations that these two intelligent, rebellious, strong women had to constantly throw themselves up against affected me viscerally: I took many breaks from reading initially as their lives seemed exhausting and overwhelming. Then, I tore through the last 150 pages so fast I rushed out to buy the third in Ferrante's quartet. Draining and captivating in equal measure: what a book! #booktober #bestofoctober

Gulfsidemusing I had to start the third book immediately after finishing this one, too! 7y
Beetle You guys are making me rethink my reading of this. So many people have loved and raved about this. I read the first and while the writing and characters were excellent, it wore me down and out. Haven 7y
Beetle ...haven't gone back for more and wasn't sure I wanted to. Now I'm thinking there may be rewards in sticking it out till the end....(sorry...constantly prematurely sending) 7y

EnidBiteEm @Lakesidemusing Have you read the fourth? I wonder if I'll feel the same need after book3 ends. @Beetle I think you definitely need to be in the right frame of mind ... although Ferrante writes exceptionally and I was amazed by her, some days I found my own responsibilities were enough and I needed to escape into something very different from #Ferrantefever 7y
Gulfsidemusing Yes, I read the fourth, but it hadn't been released yet when I finished the third. Waiting was torture!! 7y
Gulfsidemusing @Beetle I wasn't sold after the first book either. Waited over 6 months before deciding to go back for more. It was all over after starting book 2... that was my favorite! 7y
EnidBiteEm @Lakesidemusing The horror! (But lucky me 😀) 7y
Gulfsidemusing Yes, no waiting for you if you don't want to!👍📚 7y
Beetle @EnidBiteEm and @Lakesidemusing ... You two are a dynamic duo. Sooner rather than later, I'm wading back in. Also...the outdoor reading spot is delicious!!! 7y
EnidBiteEm @Beetle I would love to claim ownership, but it is in the backyard of #mybrilliantfriend 😉 7y
Gulfsidemusing @Beetle I really wasn't going to continue after the first book (almost too exhausting as you said),but found my thoughts returning to the two girls again and again... even after six months! I finally just gave in... 7y
