Taking a break in the shade to start this one! It really seems like I‘m going to love it! Also bird & butterfly watching as usual. I really want to catalogue all the butterflies I see in the yard this year. I know most of the birds by heart by now. This book has a wonderfully nostalgic dedication, so I‘ll go with that prompt: “To Charlie and to all of us who are still looking for our golden tickets.” #52bookclub23 #abookwithadedication

Pickpick

This has been on my TBR list since it was recommended to me several years ago. Glad I finally got to it! Present day America…except the Civil War never happened. It was a slow start, but picked up after about 10% and only got better and better. Severals twists and turns that kept me guessing what would happen next. Great world building by the author and excellent choice in narrator, William DeMerritt. I‘ll be thinking about this one for awhile.

Librarybelle I‘ve wondered about this one…not necessarily on my tbr list, but it had piqued my curiosity. Great review! 1y
Cinfhen I loved this one!!! Such a believable premise. Made me want to read more by the author, bit of course I never did. - #Storyofmylife #GoodIntentions 1y

Bluebird @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain first book I‘ve read by this author and it definitely made me want to read more. Golden State sounds interesting. Thanks! Will add it to my ever growing TBR pile. 1y

Mehso-so

First in the flower shop cozy mystery series…I ended up feeling just meh by the end of this. While the whole idea of a cozy is an amateur sleuth the meddles, Abby takes meddling to a whole new level, and her constant nosing around “in the name of justice” got a little old. There are some humorous bits in this, and I would be willing to continue the series to see how Collins develops the characters. The series is still going strong, so it has fans!

Cinfhen I LOVE the premise…..flower shop mysteries and the title 😂😂😂😂but an annoying main character is TOTALLY unacceptable 🙃 1y

squirrelbrain Hmmm, sounds a bit annoying! 1y
Librarybelle @Cinfhen @squirrelbrain The book got mixed reviews at book club last night, with everyone agreeing that Brooke Shields was not the right choice, descriptively, to play the role…she‘s the lead in the Hallmark movies based on the book series. 1y
Cinfhen Oh wow😲 Brooke Shields…haven‘t thought about her in decades 1y
LaraReads Ugh. Sounds tiresome to have a fun premise but not to enjoy the characters is a pain! (edited) 1y

Pickpick

This is only my second Erdrich book and, whilst I didn‘t love it as much as the sentence, I still *really* liked it. I felt like I learned so much from what was also a fascinating story. I enjoyed all the different characters, who all brought something to the story, whether small or large.

I had no idea it was based on the author‘s family until I read the epilogue.

Cinfhen Well done 👍🏻 1y
KristiAhlers You need to read The Roundhouse. That was my second by this author. She‘s very lyrical and her characters are so very real on the pages. 1y
dabbe Almost finished with this one. I'll have to read THE SENTENCE next since Watchman was only my 1st book by her. 1y

AshleyHoss820 I‘m currently reading the tagged book! Though I‘m not very far into it, I agree with @KristiAhlers! ☺️ 1y
KarenUK I‘m just starting The Sentence! 1y
Librarybelle I should try to read more by her 1y
squirrelbrain I‘ll have a look into that one thank you @KristiAhlers @AshleyHoss820 1y

Pickpick

A series of interconnected short stories exploring the lives of British women of different generations, all with African heritage. I thought the first two stories, featuring a couple of strong characters and an interesting mother-daughter dynamic, were brilliant. I was disappointed to only see these characters briefly later in the book. For me, the other stories were less interesting. #AuldLangSpine

Cinfhen Great choice 😊I loved this book 1y
Bookbuyingaddict I envy anyone who hasn‘t read this remarkable book yet 🙂 1y
