An absolutely gripping historical novel about the life of Brian Boru, the first king to unite Ireland in the 10th Century. Intrigue, battles, politics, dreams, determination, Christians, pagans, druids, Vikings, romance… this book has it all! Great on audio… the kind of book that makes you lose track of time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks, @Cuilin for another great #BookedInTime theme - Ancient Celtic Ireland. #ThemesMotifs&Tropes - A Quest (2 points)

Cuilin Sounds fantastic, I remember learning about the Battle of Clontarf in school. 2mo
julieclair @Cuilin I knew nothing about any of this history before reading this book. 2mo
dabbe Pick is on the spreadsheet! I'm reading this one, too! And now I can't wait based on your review! 🤩😃😍 2mo
julieclair @dabbe I hope you love it! I recommend listening on audio. The Irish accents lent authenticity, and I didn‘t have to stumble over all the Gaelic words. 2mo
dabbe @julieclair Great advice! Thanks. 💚 2mo

Wow. This was a fascinating, very readable nonfiction book about Russia‘s last tsar and his family. I knew very little about the years surrounding the Russian Revolution prior to reading this book, so I really learned a lot. All the names are here - Nicholas, Alexandra, Rasputin, Lenin, “The Bolsheviks”, “The Soviets” and more. Now I have a basic understanding of the stories behind those names. ⬇️

julieclair I also now have a deep sense of sadness for the history of the Russian people. Thank you, @Cuilin , for choosing the Russian Revolution as our February theme for #BookedInTime. #ThemesMotifs&Tropes - Russian Revolution, Grand House (2 points) #TBRTarot @CBee (edited) 2mo
Cuilin #BookedInTime #RussianRevolution ✔️ 🎉I‘m glad you liked this prompt. And you just reminded me to post my own book review for this month. 2mo

CBee Very sad history indeed 😕 2mo
julieclair Thank, @dabbe ! That list is so helpful. 😀 2mo
sblbooks I read this a few years back when we did #yaApril. I think this is what you would call narrative nonfiction. It's so good. 2mo
julieclair @sblbooks Yes! Narrative nonfiction is exactly right! It‘s a genre I don‘t read often, but should. 2mo

Great storytelling. Saxon England during the time of the Viking invasions. This book reminded me very much of the The Last Kingdom tv series, but without nearly as many graphic war scenes. Book 1 of a series. I'm looking forward to reading more!
This was my #BookedInTime selection for January - Early Medieval

LeeRHarry Always looking for more Viking books to add to my list! 😊 2mo
Cuilin Oh this sounds fabulous. How many in the series? 2mo
julieclair @Cuilin Only two so far. The second one is Avelynn: The Edge of Faith (not in Litsy catalog). 2mo

AnnR Could you please remove me from the tag list, too? Thank you. This looks fun but I think I'll be focusing on a few buddy reads next year (including Sherlock) which will keep me very busy. 5mo
Cuilin @AnnR 👍 5mo
willaful I think I'm also going to bow out... I feel overcommitted. :-( 5mo
Cuilin @willaful 👍 5mo
rubyslippersreads I‘ll stay on the list and read when I can, but keeping track of points is probably too much for me. 😏 5mo
Cuilin @rubyslippersreads I get it. There‘s an option to just read the monthly era prompts. 5mo
ChaoticMissAdventures Love this! I especially love that I get to pick my book with this challenge, I don't join a lot of these because my TBR is naturally so long. But since I always have a lot of historical fiction around this is fun for me. 5mo
Cuilin @ChaoticMissAdventures 🥰 wonderful 5mo
julieclair Love this idea! 😀 5mo
PageShifter Can you add me to the tag list? 5mo
rwmg Can I just keep to the period prompts without the other complications? 5mo
Cuilin @rwmg absolutely 💯 5mo
Cuilin @PageShifter of course 5mo
squirrelbrain Thanks for the tag but I‘m trying not to do *any* challenges next year (ha - we‘ll see how that goes!) so could you please take me off the list? 5mo
