Hubby‘s not feeling well so I was on double bedtime duty tonight. The boys chose their books well! #TheBadSeed is SO fun to read aloud and the illustrations in #HaveYouEverSeenaSmackofJellyfish are really stunning. One teaches a lesson, the other some wildlife facts plus the alphabet. What‘s not to love?? Highly recommend both books!

britt_brooke @LeahBergen Yep! 😆 It‘s such a cute book. He‘s good until he finds himself inside a bag of sunflower seeds, then gets spat out by a “giant.” Then he stops being polite, is always late, and never puts things back where they belong. It‘s pretty adorable. 6y

Indexasaurus I just read The Bad Seed to a group of pre-k kids, part of a theme in kindness. It is cute! Another one I read to them was The Blobfish Book, another cute/funny one (but also part nonfic so they learn something), highly recommend that one, too! 6y

There was no way I was reviewing this with only 451 characters. I‘ll say this book is NOT “We Need To Talk About Kevin” and if that‘s all that‘s griping you, you can skip this book. If you want an odd book that offers no literary merit other than the goal to shock, go for it!!! I was not a fan.

CarolynM Well, they wanted an honest review and you certainly gave them one. Good for you! I think there are far too many novels out there that use mental health conditions as a (sometimes lazy) way of creating a character or of advancing a plot without really understanding the condition and so making a nonsense of the story as you've described. At the risk of offending people I think The Eye of the Sheep is an example, although not as extreme as this 6y

batsy Great pan. Absolutely agreed, @CarolynM . This is what bothers me about some psychological thrillers. Demeaning/sensationalised portrayals of mental illness. Plus the term "psychological" conveys realism, but instead you get fantasy antics of people behaving in unpeoplelike ways. 6y

It just wasn‘t for me and I didn‘t get into the whole Crohn‘s Disease (edited) 6y

laundry_piles @Cinfhen I'm a little more than half way through right now. There had been a scene or two that's made me pretty uncomfortable given she's a "seven year old" but I'm also a mother of a five year old so some things are 'to far' for me. 6y
