I‘m looking for some help Litsy friends. I‘m not really a sports person, but I‘ve worked over the years to add more sports books to my mostly 6th-8th grade class library. Yesterday I had a specific request for books about girls in sports and realized I‘ve got very few books to recommend. So, if you‘ve got great #MiddleGrade suggestions other than the few books shown here, please send them my way!

Daisey @LibrarianRyan You‘ve always got great recs, can you share a few for this topic? 3w
LibrarianRyan Wow. I‘ll need to look. I can come up with authors but most wrote about boys. Let me see what I can find. Cheer is the only one off the top of my head about cheerleading. 3w
LibrarianRyan Roller girl, breaking the ice, skating shoes , tumble, love double Dutch, up for air, the distance to home. The girl who threw butterflies, lupe wing won‘t dance, taking up space, #great wall of Lucy Lu, there was a series called Kicks, Ana on the edge, There are just not enough sports books with girls. Ughh 3w

Sharpeipup There's bound to be one about gymnastics but I cannot think of it right now. 3w
sblbooks This one is on my TBR. 3w
CarolynM Not sure if they‘re middle grade (we don‘t divide schools the same way as the US) but there is some good Australian girls sport books around. The Netball Gems series (about netball, obvs) might not be relevant but Ellyse Perry has a soccer one as well as her cricket books 3w
CarolynM Also Sam Kerr‘s Kicking Goals series is about soccer 3w
CarolynM This is a good covering all sorts of sports (using Australian women as examples) 3w
Daisey @LibrarianRyan Thank you, I‘ll be looking these up. Your answer at least made me feel a little better about my very short list. Definitely agree we need more of these! 3w
Daisey @Sharpeipup @sblbooks Thanks! I‘ll be checking some of these out! 3w
Daisey @CarolynM Thanks! I‘m not sure how easy a few of these will be for me to find to check out before buying, but I really appreciate another perspective! 3w
Itchyfeetreader I M not great at ages is this one appropriate? 3w
Itchyfeetreader This also has female as well as male perspectives. Adult book but pretty accessible although not sure on if there is any profanity in there 3w
Daisey @Itchyfeetreader Thanks, I‘ll take a look. 3w

The longer I teach, the more I work with students to make audio available alongside print reading, especially for struggling & reluctant readers. This series is perfect for many of my reluctant readers that have difficulty finding books that interest them, but I can find no audio versions. So, I‘ve been recording chapters to a folder to share with students specifically while they have the print copy checked out.

Daisey @Cinfhen Thank! It‘s a slow process, but so worthwhile for a few of these students. 1mo

Introduction by Carl F. Hovde has some great phrasing to consider for this reread. #mobydick #teachersoflitsy

My October box of books did not disappoint on the spooky front! I've got some avid horror readers in the middle school, so they're going to be very excited! #schoollibraries #teachersoflitsy #librariansoflitsy #scarathlon #teammonstermash

Great read for Banned Books Week. This is my first Alaska Battle of the Books read for the year. It was quick with some major impact in the brief story. I also appreciated learning about the South Korean political struggles. I had no idea about any of the political violence and fascism so recently in their past. #Bannedbooksweek #alaskabatleofthebooks #battleofthebooks #graphicnovels #bannedbooks #teachersoflitsy

Banned Books Week Bulletin Board! All my classes do a Banned Books activity. Last year, a set of books was withheld from Seward HS library without any oversight from the Curriculum Review Committee after the assistant superintendent decided that the titles were too controversial. Titles included: “I Am A Feminist,” “We Are Not Yet Equal: Understanding Our Racial Divide,” and others regarding LGBTQA representation. Censorship happens near and far.

Excellent! I just picked it up tonight and love it. An Alaska HS Battle of the Books selection for the year. Also just in time for Banned Books week. I‘m reading F451 with my juniors and this book is getting me excited for my censorship lecture! #battleofthebooks #bannedbooks #Korea #GraphicNovel #teachersoflitsy

I finished this on audio yesterday while getting things ready for our first day with students. It was a really fun adventure story, and is getting added to the list of books I want to read with my 6th grade book club! #schoollibraries #teachersoflitsy #librariansoflitsy

New Kid on the Book The cover looks cool! 3mo
