This is my pick for #Nonfiction2019 #SomethingWithPolitics If you are interested in Russian royal dynasty and if you are looking for something light from history field, than I recommend this book. It‘s quick and well informative book about the world of unbelievable power, but some parts were just on the too trashy side ...

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I can‘t imagine pushing all that history into 12 hours. That‘s an impressive audiobook! Good job! 5y
ValerieAndBooks I‘ve read some of his other books, so I might like this one too 😂! 5y
Simona It‘s still enough informative if you aren‘t familiar with the Russian court, but it‘s lacking in some deeper analysis of the history... just okay/readable overview. @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @ValerieAndBooks (edited) 5y

I think I found this one because the author is going to be at the San Antonio book festival in April. I‘m sure I heard about Congresswoman Barbara Jordan growing up, but didn‘t remember much about her. This picture book biography is a great way to learn about her life. I wish she was still with us today. I also stacked a full length biography to read later. #nonfiction2019 #somethingwithpolitics

Bookzombie The full length biography is 5y
Suet624 There are some great videos of her on YouTube. 5y
Bookzombie @Suet624 Thanks! I will have to check them out. 5y
Smrloomis Ooh, thanks for adding the full length biography. I stacked it too 🙌🏽 5y

I‘ve been a big Kamala (said comma-la) fan since the Kavanaugh hearings. Her tenacity in questioning those appearing before Senate committees is practically legendary. She‘d better be good at it—she‘s been a lawyer for decades. Her memoir fills in details about her family and childhood. But mostly why she fights for what she does.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa That‘s exactly when she hit my radar too! So good at asking tough and important questions. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yup! I linked to her questions of William Barr for Attorney General in my review. Just because I didn‘t want to watch Kavanaugh. 😝 5y
UwannaPublishme Yay Kamala! And yay to you for another great review. 🙌🏻 5y

My first book of the year was “Becoming”, so it‘s #SomethingYouPick
Then I decided I‘d read some of my #MountTBR of Obama/Trump books before they got too outdated, so I followed up with:
“Fear” many #UnlikelyCharacters
“Shade” #SomethingWithPicture
“Thanks, Obama” #SomethingWithPolitics

And then:
“Sapiens” #SomethingWithHistory
“ColorOfLaw” #SomethingWithLaw
“We‘re Going to Need More Wine” which is VERY #SomethingPersonal

#Nonfiction2019

Lindy Zooming along. Good work! 5y

I loved this book! In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I sent a copy to my Indian-American bff. Immigration is such a contentious point today. America (the person) did a great job of inviting participants from various parts of Asia, Africa, and Latin America as well as Native Americans. The writers are actors, activists, singers, politicians, etc. 5⭐️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m still on hold for this at the library, I‘m glad to hear you enjoyed it! 5y
Megabooks @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I hope you like it! I‘ve really been enjoying essay collections lately. Some are better than others in this, but there were only 2/31 that I didn‘t think were as great as the others. 5y

Her grace, her compassion, her presence, honesty and intellect, it all shines through in this amazing memoir. There were so many emotional moments, and I truly learned from her story. This book is a gift to the world, and I am so grateful she is willing to share her story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘d only heard of Ruby Ridge as being one of the catalysts, along with Waco, of McVeighs bombing in Oklahoma. But I didn‘t know any of the details until watching a doc on PayTV, which led me to this book. I feel frustrated & angry on finishing this,at the stupidity shown by the Weavers, but mostly at agencies that felt above reproach. Both ended in the deaths of two people. What a waste. #Booked2019 #RelatedToAPodcast #NonFiction2019 #LitsyAtoZ2019

Cinfhen Excellent review!! I‘m intrigued 5y

Still going strong with this enthralling non fiction about the standoff between a family of armed Christian survivalists & the FBI in 1992. It ended 11 days later with 3 people dead, including a teenage boy & his mother. I watched the PBS doc a few weeks ago & thought there was more to be told than was on the tv. Hoping to finish this before the end of the #24in48 #readathon #NonFiction2019 #SomethingWithPolitics #Booked2019 #RelatedToAPodcast

Cinfhen Nice choice!! I think this standoff was referenced in the memoir Educated! I briefly recall the episode. Fascinating (edited) 5y
