In CA, only 13.6% of adults served by a regional center were employed in 2015 (CA SCDD stat). For today‘s #NewYearReads I ask everyone to make a difference:
-READ about developmental disabilities
-support legislature that supports the field
-if you‘re a business owner or know one: reach out to local transitional programs, regional centers & nonprofits and collaborate to ease and support transitions into meaningful employment

I also want to #makeadifference in people‘s lives. I‘m a nurse, as some of you know, so you‘re thinking I should feel like I do that every day... But it‘s not like that some days... I work in a 60 bed extremely busy er. I feel like I make a difference when I‘m caring for my really sick patients... Where I‘m going with this is... I want to 👇🏻👇🏻

You never know if you‘re the first person they have seen that day who has smiled at them, been nice to them or even talked to them!! Think about it!!! ❤️😘🤔 (edited) 6y

bookloo I can attest to this: I notice when I smile at strangers in my day-to-day life they‘ll usually either look shocked for a moment or immediately smile back. Showing a small act of kindness to make someone‘s day less shitty is awesome. ♥️ (edited) 6y

Caroline2 Nurses are the most amazing people! My little boy has been seriously ill this year and the nurses that have been round to do all his checks, the nurses in hosp that cuddled me while I cried and held my hand when talking about test results, I wouldn't have got through this past awful year without nurses! So thank you!!! 😘 6y

I try to make a difference every day by keeping in touch with folks who have no one and by helping others when I can. Please check on your neighbors especially if they are elderly.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks That‘s wonderful!! I‘m doing to do the same! I‘m going to try to say something nice and give someone I don‘t know a compliment each day! You never know when someone has been nice to them or what is going on in their life... sometimes all someone needs is a smile... ☺️😊 #makeadifference 6y
