The Bostonians | Henry James
Panpan

What a grand idea to write a novel about a Mississipian displaced by the Civil War coming to NY to make his career but who, when he falls in love, runs into resistance from New England reformers about the place of women in society. Should they be wives or emancipators of women? Unfortunately, James is not up to the task of weaving this is into a story. Boring. #litsyclassics

His Family | Ernest Poole

Pickpick

First ever #PulitzerPrize for the Novel winner back in 1918. It‘s a rather touching family drama about a widower and his three adult daughters. One is dedicated to domestic life and motherhood, one is a teacher and social reformer, and one is a socialite who just wants to enjoy life. Through these three women‘s lives Poole explores what it meant to be a woman in turn of the century New York. An enjoyable read overall. #litsyclassics

Excellent Women | Barbara Pym

Pickpick

Enjoyed this humorous novel written in the 1950s about Mildred, an unmarried woman in her 30s, and her relationship with the people in her London neighborhood and church. Mildred belongs to the class of “excellent women” who seem to exist solely to assist the helpless men in their lives. A portrait of post war England, the novel examines a rapidly changing society in a light-hearted way through the eyes of Mildred. #classics #litsyclassics

I bought myself a couple of presents at the bookstore. I guess I‘m just feeling the Woolf & Dickens vibes, these days.

Moray_Reads What a beautiful edition! Have you read it before? 5y
saresmoore @Moray_Reads I haven‘t, but I‘m really looking forward to it! I‘m assuming you‘ve read it? 5y
Moray_Reads @saresmoore I think it was the first Woolf I read. Less modernist than her later stuff but still exquisitely written 5y
OnlyYoo I loved Bleak House. Possible my favorite Dickens so far! 5y
batsy That Woolf 😍 Bleak House is still tbr for me, I had grand plans to read it for #litsyclassics last year but, well, 😆 5y

saresmoore @batsy I‘m honestly impressed that you can remember what was on your list for #litsyclassics! You know I‘d be up for a buddy read, but you probably also have deduced that I‘m a notoriously flaky buddy reader... 😬🤷‍♀️ 5y
batsy @saresmoore I'm game if you are! Perhaps later in the year? 😁 #flakybuddyreadersunite 5y

Litsy Tips
Vivlio_Gnosi Does @Litsy allow users to follow a hashtag or are we restricted to just searches? 5y
Litsy @Vivlio_Gnosi At the moment, just searching. But, yes, that's something we're planning. Thanks! 5y
DieAReader I‘m trying to tag a new Litsy user & I can‘t seem to always gets her name to come up. Am I doing something wrong? There‘s a space in her name & as soon as I add it, I‘m no longer in the tagging screen. Help plz? 4y
Chrissyreadit @SquidgetsRoom there aren‘t spaces in litsytags. Sometimes it is hard- I‘m not sure why. If their real name is available you can type it- those do have spaces between first and last names. I‘m just another Litsy user- so cant answer why. If you are on Facebook and go to the Onward Litsy page you may get better information. 4y
DieAReader Ok thanks @Chrissyreadit I‘ll take a look for sure! 4y

Thank you @BookwormM - it arrived safely this morning 😊. Really not sure how I‘ll get on with this one, but looking forward to giving it a try - and it‘s 112 pages short, which always helps 👍
