Chief of Police Kate Burkholder responds to a call only to discover an Amish man who has been violently killed with a crossbow. Aden Karn was just twenty years old, well liked, and from an upstanding Amish family. Aden Karn was looking forward to marrying his sweet fiancé, Emily. All the while, Kate‘s own wedding day to Tomasetti draws near.

EadieB But as she delves into Karn‘s past, Kate begins to hear whispers about a dark side. What if Aden Karn wasn‘t the wholesome young man everyone admired? Kate comes face to face with the terrible consequences of a life lived in all the dark places. This is the 15th book in the Kate Burkholder series. I have read all the others and suggest you do too as that's the best way to get a feel for the series. 10mo
EadieB Although it can be read as a standalone as enough background is given in each book. There are great plot twists which make you switch to other characters while reading the book. The ending is a complete surprise which I didn't see coming. I'm now looking forward to the next book in the series. If you like twists with your mysteries then you will love this book. 10mo
Andrew65 I really must get back to this series! 10mo

Amish bishop Amanias Stoltzfus disappeared without a trace. Skeletal remains show evidence of foul play. The town elders arrive in Painters Mill to ask chief of police Kate Burkholder for help. She realizes that she has a personal connection to the crime. Jonas Bowman is the Amish man who stands accused of murder. He was Kate's first love.

EadieB Kate travels to Pennsylvania's Kishacoquillas Valley. Though Bishop Stoltzfus was highly respected, she soon hears about a dark side to this complex man. What was he hiding that resulted in his own brutal death? This is the 14th book of the series. You can read each book as a standalone but it is best to read it as a series. 2y
EadieB The twists keep the pages turning. The ending is a complete surprise. I am now looking forward to the next book in the series. If you like the action then you will love this book. l am thankful to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for a copy for an honest review. 2y
Andrew65 Well done. 👏👏👏 I need to get back to some Linda Castillo. 2y

Book 13 in the series. Rachel Swartz leaves the Plain life but takes secrets with her. Chief of Police, Kate Burkholder is shocked when she finds that Rachel has been brutally murdered. She is told that Rachel has many enemies. When long buried secrets resurface, Kate must find the murderer before he strikes again. I love this series. Castillo is a great writer and storyteller.

EadieB The book has twists and turns I didn't see coming and the ending is a complete surprise. Can be a standalone but should start at book 1 in order to get all the background on the characters. Looking forward to book 14. Thanks to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for a free copy for an honest review. 3y
EadieB Thanks to MacMillian audio for a copy of the audio of this book. Kathleeen McInerney is a great narrator and she is the voice of Kate Burkholder. I love reading along with the audio. It makes for a great experience.. I also loved hearing from the author at the end of the audio. 3y
TheAromaofBooks I love this series!! Excited about the newest addition. 3y

Day 5 - #Top20Series #20Days20Series
#KateBurkholderSeries #LindaCastillo

This is another of my favorite series. These are crime thrillers set in Amish country in Ohio. Outsider just published July 2020 is the 19th book in the series.

Andrew65 I‘ve only read the first few, need to get back to them as excellent reads. (edited) 4y
Bluebird Never heard of this one...adding to my list, lol 4y

Bluebird I put it near the top of my list...but I‘m trying to catch up on some of the other mystery series I am reading. Too many books....far too little time!😭 4y
EadieB @Bluebird I know that feeling! 4y
andrew61 They sound interesting, another writer who ill look up when the libraries start allowing browsing again. 4y
EadieB @andrew61 Can't believe your libraries aren't open yet. 4y
andrew61 @EadieB they are only letting you borrow pre packed collection of books by categories, however i am getting through that huge pile we all have. 4y
EadieB @andrew61 It is a good thing to get through your TBR pile at this time! 4y
TheAromaofBooks I love this series!! I just got the latest one from the library this week!! I'm only about an hour or so away from where the stories are set, and since we have our own Amish community here as well I appreciate the way that Castillo writes about them. 4y
eanderson Great series! This is my series choice for today. 4y

10th Kate Burkholder book in Linda Castillo‘s Amish series. I have read them all and each one is a page-turner. The characters are well-developed and the plots are always intriguing. The circumstances of a death by fire in a barn of a young Amish man brings up the hurtful past of Chief Kate Burkholder. This series should be read in order. If you haven‘t started this series, you should, as they do not disappoint! Thanks to netgalley for an ARC.
