Pickpick

Quirky, clever family story told from the kids' POV. #kidsinamerica #90sinjuly

SheilaChew Such a strange book, but I enjoyed reading it. Did you see the movie? I thought they did a great job - I'm a big fan of Jason Bateman. 7y
Mindyrecycles @SheilaChew Not yet, but I will. Thanks for recommending. 7y

How can this #KidsInAmerica #90sinJuly pass without reference to Holden Caulfield.

#KidsInAmerica need #STEAM which is why I'm building dinosaur robots to present in my library next week. I'm embarrassed that it took me forever to build but in my defense, there were like a billion pieces in it! Lol

@Cinfhen @Robothugs

Robothugs Nothing to be embarrassed of! There really is a million parts to them! I love that you're doing this. 💕 7y
EchoLogical @Robothugs Thanks 😆 I'm excited but nervous. I'm not tech savvy in the least but I'm trying to get with the times. 7y
youngreadrshelf Oooo. I might need that for my classroom. Can more than one kid build a robot at the same time? 7y

alisiakae My daughter loves sets like that! She has gone to an all-girl STEAM summer day camp, Project Scientist, for the last 3 years. They built a k'nex robot at this year's camp. (edited) 7y
EchoLogical @youngreadrshelf I wish! It only has one motor so unfortunately, no. It does have a few different designs so once it's apart, students can make different animals. I found them on Amazon for $35 so we bought 4. Just a heads up: these MINI sets are super small. The 600 models are much bigger and easier to put together. 7y
EchoLogical @4thhouseontheleft I'd love to get my 6 year old into something like that but I haven't had any luck finding something for her age. 7y
youngreadrshelf @EchoLogical thanks. Good to know! 7y
Cinfhen I'm impressed 🙌🏻I'm still stumped by basic Lego 😖 7y
alisiakae @EchoLogical she has been going to Project Scientist since she was 6. Unfortunately, they are only in 2 states in the US: Charlotte, NC and 2 locations in CA. 7y
EchoLogical @4thhouseontheleft Ohh okay. We're far from both in Florida. 7y
kspenmoll I am so impressed; I have a tough time spatially, so lego tiny parts & directions do not work well with me- frustration!! 7y
EchoLogical @Cinfhen @kspenmoll Same! I seriously considered gluing my daughter's Lego set together last Christmas so I would never have to assemble it again. 😂😂😂 7y

Day 27 #JubilantJuly #Publishedinthe1970s #90sinJuly #KidsinAmerica Even though the song is from the 90s, I'm combining photo challenges today & offering up what I (a kid in America) was reading with these 6 favorite books of mine that were published in the '70s. I would have been reading these in the mid-to late part of the decade in my preteen/teen years. I adored Paula Danziger, Lois Duncan & Judy Blume books the most.💜📚💜 #multitasking

Cinfhen Awesome 💖🎉🙌🏻#multiplayer 7y
merelybookish WHOA The Cat Ate My Gym Suit!! I forgot about that book. 7y
LauraBeth Paula Danziger! 👏👏👏👏 I want to re-read these books as an adult 😀 7y

LeahBergen Aaack! Flashback! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ 7y
RealLifeReading I was a Judy Blume fan but maybe the other writers' books didn't make it to my shores as a kid as I don't recall reading them 7y
Eryn2513 The Cat Ate My Gymsuit!!! I checked this out of my school's library so many times that the librarian gave it to me at the end of 6th grade! Great trip down memory lane, thanks! 😁✨💜 7y
Audrey Me too on those three authors. I also loved 7y
Audrey And remember Norma fox mazer? 7y
Ahenchcliffe All of these! And also Paul Zindel. I loved his stuff. 7y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen @LeahBergen ⚡️📚⚡️😆 @merelybookish @LauraBeth @Eryn2513 I loved Danziger's books so much--especially The Cat Ate My Gym Suit. I need to find them again and reread them too. 💜📚💜 @RealLifeReading Judy Blume was probably the best seller of the group & most famous. 👍😀 @Audrey @Ahenchcliffe I do remember Norma Fox Mazer & Paul Zindel both--the 70s-80s had some great YA authors! 📚❤️ 7y

#90sInJuly #day27 #KidsInAmerica Though this is set in the 80s, it reminds me of this song so much, besides I'm pretty sure Kim Wildes song was released in the 80s, not the90s. Anyway, if you're after high school cliques, big hair, smoking behind the sheds, American kids with a dash of the devil thrown in, this book is for you. Trashy, strange & interesting.

Cinfhen Such a fun book and perfect ode to the 80's 💘#OnceAn80sGirlAlwaysAn80sGirl 7y
Karkar The paperback cover is totally 80's ...you have to check it out! 7y

I went with a classic for today's #kidsinAmerica prompt 👯👯

#90sinJuly

Robothugs I still need to read this 🙈 Does it make up for it that I loved the movies? 7y
Kalalalatja @Robothugs I haven't seen the movie, so I couldn't say 🙈 I didn't love the book, but it was a good read still. It just got a little too preachy for me 7y
Cinfhen Pretty cover 😍 7y

Robothugs I can understand that. I haven't seen the newer adaption all the way through, but I enjoyed the one with Audrey Hepburn 7y
Kalalalatja @Cinfhen I love the Puffin in Bloom editions 😍 7y
Kalalalatja @Robothugs I didn't even know there was one with Audrey Hepburn! I have to see if I can find it somewhere 👍 7y

If #KidsInAmerica don't love Shel Silverstein, something is wrong! An interesting story behind my choice of poem: When I was in 3rd grade we had to read a poem aloud in front of the class. This is the one I chose. It took a good five seconds for everyone to burst into laughter. Thankfully, so did my teacher. #90sInJuly
