Finished paper 1 at 2 am
& now I sit here yet again
to write another line and verse;
I hope this essay isn‘t worse
than this poem.

I‘m halfway through comps exams & enjoying the heck out of the process even if I am tired. Today I get to write about microscopic worlds, affective ecocriticism, & The Secret Garden.

Highly recommend the tagged book even if you are not writing for scholarship. It‘s so cool! This illustration is one of my favorites🧚

Don‘t listen to them —
knowledge is power — may your
thirst never be quenched. 🦉

Knowledge is definitely power. Important to keep this in mind when trying new endeavors and somebody wants to rain on your parade. Example: me learning French. I‘ve been learning for 6 years now & I‘ve had a couple of people ask “why”, like it‘s some huge waste of time. I say, why not?

Jari-chan Learning is never a waste of time! Kudos for you learning French 👏 2w

dabbe Learning is the number one purpose in life (IMHO). Smarter people don't buy into any crackpot or crackpot idea that they come across. They know how to think and read CRITICALLY. Love a haiku with a theme! 🖤🐝💛 2w
tpixie @JenlovesJT47 what format/ process has been the most successful for you in your learning French? I want to restart… 2w
JenlovesJT47 @tpixie I‘ve been using Duolingo since 2019. I haven‘t done as much this year reading wise but I also read children‘s books in French out loud to help with my pronunciation. Listen to songs in French, watch shows in French, it all helps! I read the first 2 Harry Potter books in French (read with my eyeballs while listening to the French audio & since I‘m so familiar with the story already that really helps!) ♥️ 2w
JenlovesJT47 @Jari-chan @TheBookHippie @lil1inblue @dabbe thanks for the encouragement everyone! My dad is the one who looks at me like I‘m nuts when I tell him I‘m learning French ? Je suis très fatiguée de toute cette merde ?? 2w

New products. I picked up TJ‘s new body sunscreen gel. They have a new mineral sunscreen too.

Each chapter in this impressive, informative read follows a female scientist influenced by Marie Curie while also sharing her astounding story. Marie's love of science still influences young scientists today, and her dedication to learning is infectious.

This book is well written and the perfect mix of science and personal reflections.

I waited 14 years to read this not-difficult book. Sigh.

This tries to capture a transitional era in the sciences, ~1800, when science and the arts were closely linked and science was a wide-open field for adventure, but was also becoming formalized, and a far more stringent field. (The steampunk era? 🙂) But Holmes approach is pure biography (of people instead of ideas). I was entertained. This is an easy, wonderful listen.

I've seen this quote before, and I love it, but I love this framing of it even more!

Also, I think I need this quote on a t-shirt. For those non-great days.

24/100 I don't believe that I have ever listened to a less interesting book involving dinosaurs and paleontology, two subjects that I'm very interested in. IMO the book spends too much time discussing religious leaders, and how they tried to align fossils with the teachings of the bible. Even when discussing Darwin and evolution, it was more about the affect on the religious community than on the validity of the theories. 3 ⭐⭐⭐ #Read2025

My new audiobook, selected to carry me far away from the daily catastrophic news. Three hours there is a whole lot on 18th-century botanist Joseph Banks.

Graywacke @kspenmoll It‘s a good place to be right now - distant and optimistic. 6mo
