'In her first novel,Megan Jacobson reveals herself to be a masterful storyteller . . . This is young-adult fiction at its best.' Nick Earls 'This story has such a generous heart. I loved it. Utterly unique and beautifully written, Yellow pulls you into the rhythms of life in a small coastal town; its beauty and its harsh realities. But it's the supernatural element that illuminates the story, weaving through the loves and hopes of characters you care for deeply. I was there every inch of the way with Kirra, as she fought for a future she could believe in, and I cheered for her too.' Kirsty Eagar If fourteen-year-old Kirra is having a mid-life crisis now then it doesn't bode well for her life expectancy. Her so-called friends bully her, whatever semblance of a mother she had has been drowned at the bottom of a gin bottle ever since her dad left them for another woman, and now a teenage ghost is speaking to her through a broken phone booth. Kirra and the ghost make a pact. She'll prove who murdered him almost twenty years ago if he makes her popular, gets her parents back together, and he promises not to haunt her. Things aren't so simple, however, and Kirra realises that people can be haunted in more ways than one.

These are all the books I read this year 😁 I read 20 books (3 a reread) which I am pretty pleased with considering I only read a small amount last year due to moving a few times and having my books in boxes for most of the year 😢📦 Yay to not having to move this year haha and also finding time to read whenever I could 🙌📚 There were a few super late nights but it was well worth it 😅😉

Very much enjoyed this story. Kirra's father Lark has moved in with his pregnant girlfriend, her mother is an alcoholic, she's talking to a ghost via pay phone, and she soon finds herself the odd one out with her group of friends. A story of self discovery, this was a perfect balance of serious and humor.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks So pretty!!! 7y

It's tough to talk about a book that has been nominated for a literary award and yet is problematic both structurally and in subject matter. Lucky I have coffee and ultimate chocolate chip cookie to help me sort through my thoughts. Struggled a lot with this book.

LizGotauco I bailed on this one. 7y

They would be pretty. Their eyes and lips and noses are arranged in all the proper proportions. They would be pretty, except for the furious expressions they're all wearing as they look at me. #loveozya #openinglines

Beautifully, almost poetically written debut YA novel from Australia which blew me away. I inhaled this book yesterday in one single day, which doesn't happen often, for me, on audiobook. Very well narrated. 4.5 out of 5 ⭐️. #loveOzYA

#seasonsreadings2016 #day20 #TitlesStartingWithXYZ Yellow is the wall behind & Yellow is the name of the book. Gorgeous #loveozya novel by an Australian author, set in a small town near Byron Bay in NSW. Kirra is a 14yr old girl, bullied at school, neglected at home, she picks up the payphone one day when it rings & finds the ghost of a teenage boy on the line. He promises to help her if she finds out who murdered him 20yrs ago. Loved it❤️

Soubhiville Love that cover, and the story sounds great! This would be a great Y choice for #litsyAtoZ 7y

It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark 🌜just kidding! It's after midnight and I forgot to take a photo so I'm recycling an Instagram photo of my March reads for today's #bookstack / #augustphotochallenge prompt 😬😊

I'm really trying to read all the unread books in my bookshelf (😅 which is a pretty lofty goal) as my head does get turned pretty easily by library books...

I have to admit that this book wasn't what I thought it was going to be but I'm so glad I picked it up. With a hint of mystery that leaves you guessing all the way to the end this is a book was funny, sad, strange (in a good way) and allows you to take something away you didn't expect too.

Yellow is exquisitely written. It's like poetry. If I had a yellow highlighter and I marked every line that was beautiful or poignant or resonated deep within me, this book would be all yellow.
