This book was INCREDIBLE! There were so many things going on. It was a fantasy rooted in mythology, with a gun-slinging, western feel combined with a Middle Eastern influence. It was a hot-bed for cross-genre mayhem, but oh my goodness it just WORKED.

Aga_reads I loved this! 8y

This book is the perfect example of how reading broadens your view of the world by allowing you to step into someone else's experience.
It was like The Little Mermaid, if you took away the mermaids, and the magic, and the sea-witch, and set it in the Blue Mountains. Perfection.

This book killed my heart. So brutally honest and raw. And funny! How can a book be so funny and completely devastating at the same time? I am shattered.

Solid 3.5 The time travel was ace and the settings were rich with detail. But the pacing was slow and the chapters were so long. I didn't totally love the characters and the romance didn't take my breath away. But I will stick with the series.

The rating system for books needs to be revisited now. If I looked up at the night sky it wouldn't hold enough stars to rate A Gathering of Shadows. This series has rocketed past everything else I've ever read and is sitting firmly in the top spot.

bookish.hummingbird I'm reading this right now. 8y
StephC What do you think so far? 8y
bookish.hummingbird The opening sequence with Lila is soooo bad-ass. She's only been in Red for a few months and she does THAT?!?! 8y
StephC @booksandpajamas Lila is an epic character! I love her so hard ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 8y

Summer Skin is smart, funny, sexy and feminist. The characters are amazing, and I'm quite in love with Jess myself. Mitch's character arc is beautiful. I wish I read this book when I was 19, but I still bloody loved it at 32.

There was so much heart packed into the 248 pages of this story. This book perfectly reflected imperfect family life. It was also refreshingly diverse without feeling like it's trying too hard to be.

I loved everything about this book. It was well written, fast-paced, action-packed and there was enough romance to make me fangirl, but not so much that it overshadowed the plot.
The way the characters interact with each other was just perfection.

volumesofthoughts This was one of my favourite books from last year, glad you liked it! I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel, it's too bad it's only a duology. 8y
StephC @thebigbookwolf loved it! Yes, I can't wait for Crooked Kingdom 8y
bookish.hummingbird I am HOPING they expand the series. It's just awesome. I like it much much better than the Grisha trilogy. 8y

If you haven't read this book then we can't be friends. Jokes! But seriously, go read this book right now so we can be friends. When I'm asked for a book rec, this is the first title I shout. It's glorious. And yes- I own 3 copies.

Connie Def adding this to my ever growing 'to read' list 😅 8y
StephC It's amazing! Hope you love it ❤️ 8y
youngish-adult I read it last week. It was great!! I bought the last two books of the trilogy; have you read them? 8y

This book has all the things. There is a kick ass female protagonist, a muscle car, demons, vampires, psycho parental units. It's dark and funny and gory.
I am a massive Supernatural geek, so this book ticked so many boxes for me.

This book was important to me as a teen with depression. It's the first book I had ever read that looked at mental illness in teens

Yellow is exquisitely written. It's like poetry. If I had a yellow highlighter and I marked every line that was beautiful or poignant or resonated deep within me, this book would be all yellow.

I have figured out why it always takes me a long time to read Victoria's books: I re-read all the brilliant, mind-blowing sentences again and again. Victoria could write about paint drying and I would read the shit out of that book.

thelittlestbiblio She is truly beyond talented! Have you read "A Darker Shade of Magic?" I highly suggest it and the sequel just came out last week. 8y
StephC I have! It's masterful 8y

The Impossible Knife of Memory | Laurie Halse Anderson

Laurie has written a complex and emotionally charged book, in a direct and simple manner, which is not an easy feat. This story deals with some heavy issues but doesn't feel didactic which heightens the devastating truths at the core of the story.
