My Italian Bulldozer
My Italian Bulldozer: A Novel | Alexander McCall Smith
From one of our most beloved and best-selling authors: a hilarious new stand-alone novel about one man's misadventures in travel and romance in the Italian countryside. When writer Paul Stewart heads to the idyllic Italian town of Montalcino to finish his already overdue cookbook, he expects it to be the perfect escape from stressful city life. But when he arrives, things quickly take a turn for the worse. His hired car is nowhere to be found, and with no record of a reservation at the car-rental counter and no other cars are available, it appears that Paul will be stuck at the airportthat is, until an enterprising stranger offers him an unexpected alternative: a bulldozer. With little choice in the matter, Paul accepts, and so begins a series of laugh-out-loud adventures as he trundles through the Tuscan countryside. A story of unexpected circumstances and making the best of what you have, My Italian Bulldozer is a warm and witty read guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

I‘ve been bad about posting lately. But i have been reading quite a bit. Fun palate-cleanser. Author heads to Italy after a break-up to finish his book about Tuscan wine and cuisine, and hi-jinx including a bulldozer ensue. This was a nice light read and the descriptions of the food and wine made me long for carefree days of travel. #wineorwhine #booked2020

Started listening to this book in a new series by Alexander McCall Smith. Not sure what to expect but he does write some excellent books.

AlaMich I‘ve never been able to get into any of his series besides No. 1. 4y
Andrew65 @AlaMich I‘ve enjoyed his 44Scotland Street Series, but only read 3. 4y
Tamra I know you love Mma Romtoswe. I haven‘t really ventured outside #1 Ladies, but I did enjoy the first of his new series. I think I need to dive back in for comfort reading. 4y

Mehso-so

I found this on a cozy-mystery-recommendations-list. I have read The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by McCall Smith, so I gave it a go without further research. I read page after page, waiting for the mystery to happen. And then the book was over. I cannot say, I did not enjoy it, it was just that I expected something completely different.

A tour of Tuscany in the only rental available, a huge yellow bulldozer! This is a light, funny audio perfect for very early morning commutes when the brain is still warming up for the day.

My book club met for wine and painting following the reading of our current book. We painted a Tuscan scene from our story. Such a fun group of readers! P.S. this was my first time and painting is way harder than it looks 😂 #paintandsip #bookclub

This book is so sweet. When Paul flies to Italy to finish his regional food and wine book, things don't go exactly as planned. The only vehicle he can find to rent is a bulldozer. Astride this massive vehicle, Paul learns to roll with the punches, enjoy the journey, and follow his heart. Alexander McCall Smith's vivid descriptions make me want to drop everything and travel to this remote village.

Made a stop at the library on the way home. New (to me) authors, plus continuing Blue Exorcist (and I even got the right number this time!!!!) Time to settle down with a cup of hot chocolate and dig in!

Delightful as all Alexander McCall Smith‘s books are - this one set in Montalcino where writer Paul Stewart goes after his girlfriend leaves him for her personal trainer. The usual delightful assortment of eccentric but loveable characters and the Italian countryside, food and wine- a lovely 6 hour listen in the car!

I read everything this man writes.

His books bring joy and humour into my life. The stories may sometimes be frothy and tinged with absurdity (which I LOVE), but they are always real and human and kind.

I preceded this book with The Yellow Wallpaper and The Road so I was in need of some Italian sunshine.

And I added the typewriter because Yellow.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (because it made me happy)

My son and I shared croissants today. He did his homework. I dreamt of Italy. The cafe unknowingly colour coordinated their plates with my book. 🙂

Was going to wait and read this closer to its pub date but it just kept calling to me. And yes, for the eagle-eyed, this is a very old globe. My grandfather made the beautiful stand it's in and I inherited it from him.
