Everything Is OK | Debbie Tung
13 posts | 18 read | 18 to read
From the bestselling author of Quiet Girl in a Noisy World comes a gently humorous and poignant collection of comics about anxiety and depression--because sometimes even the simple things like getting out of bed every day feel like an uphill battle. Everything Is OK is the story of Debbie Tung's struggle with anxiety and her experience with depression. She shares what it's like navigating life, overthinking every possible worst-case scenario, and constantly feeling like all hope is lost. The book explores her journey to understanding the importance of mental health in her day-to-day life and how she learns to embrace the highs and lows when things feel out of control. Debbie opens up about deeply personal issues and the winding road to recovery, discovers the value of self-love, and rebuilds a more mindful relationship with her mental health. In this graphic memoir, Debbie aims to provide positive and comforting messages to anyone who is facing similar difficulties or is just trying to get through a tough time in life. She hopes to encourage readers to be kinder to themselves, to know that they are not alone, and that it's okay to be vulnerable because they are not defined by their mental health struggles. The dark clouds won't be there forever. Everything will turn out all right.

My BFF gifted me this for my birthday and I just got around to reading it. I‘ve been struggling with stress and general displeasure with my job so I appreciated this book and a lot of the comics spoke to me. Nice to have a reminder it‘s ok to be down sometimes and to step back and take care of yourself

Good. Shows her journey through depression and how she is working through it. Lovely artwork. Also it gives you hope and inspiration for your own mental health issues, that there is hope and how ever you cope to combat your issues that is ok and that you shouldn't be ashamed to feel those feelings which would only make the problem worse.

This was so relatable. The artwork was perfect. She was able to really express all her personal feelings and emotions through it. The way she used color like that was beautiful. I borrowed it from the library, but I think I want my own copy.

Debbie shares quite a lot about her experiences with depression and anxiety, and takes a thoughtful look at her healing process. Her art is beautiful and really illustrates what she's talking about. I've seen several people say they didn't like this book as much as her other work, and now I have to wonder if there's a solid reason or if it's just because of this book's subject matter. #MentalHealth #Comic #Nonfiction

Birdsong28 It is probably to do with the subject matter rather than the artwork as I have a copy and have flicked through it and it is just the same as the other books that she has done. It is a serious subject and some people may be triggered by it so have left negative reviews as they have been affected by it. I am waiting to read it myself when I am in an ok frame of mind to not be affected by it myself. 13mo
Kenyazero @Birdsong28 Definitely a good one to wait on until you're struggling less. The book dives really deeply into healing and self-kindness, but it dives equally deeply into the struggle itself. 13mo

This book resonated with me at times. Though I prefer graphic novels that tell a cohesive story, this collection of panels about mental health was meaningful in its own way. I related to some of the author‘s experiences with depression and anxiety, and it was cool how she used watercolor (or the lack of it) to convey different states of mind.

I went into this with high hopes because of just how much I adored Book Love, and while this did resonate, it felt like something I‘d heard before (though was always good to hear again). It wasn‘t particularly groundbreaking or personal in any way. Most of these cells could go up on anyone‘s Instagram to illustrate sinking into/climbing out of anxiety and depression. #FabulousFebruary @Andrew65

Andrew65 Well done on finishing it 👏👏👏 1y
KathyWheeler I agree with this review. I read it but never reviewed it. It was fine but also a little repetitive and there was nothing really new here. I would probably give it to a young adult suffering from depression though. (edited) 1y

I enjoyed this graphic novel though not quite so much as her previous ones. Would be a helpful gift to a loved one who struggles with anxiety or depression.

KathyWheeler That‘s exactly how I felt about it. 1y

Tung‘s book is full of little nuggets that may seem simple but are reassuring and encouraging. Like learning to accept yourself and embrace your awkwardness. And to be kind to others and to yourself.

DimeryRene I love this author!! 1y
