'Incredible! A vividly told mystery, perfect for fans of Jane Harper' ALLIE REYNOLDS, AUTHOR OF SHIVER 'A triumphant debut' ROSE CARLYLE 'Intriguing and compelling. Shelley Burr is a bright new talent' CHRIS HAMMER EVERYBODY THINKS THEY KNOW MINA McCREERY. EVERYONE HAS A THEORY ON WHAT HAPPENED TO HER SISTER. NOW IT'S TIME TO FIND OUT THE TRUTH... Mina McCreery's sister Evelyn disappeared nineteen years ago. Her life has been defined by the intense public interest in the case. Now an anxious and reclusive adult, she lives alone on her family's destocked sheep farm. When Lane, a private investigator, approaches her with an offer to reinvestigate the case, she rejects him. The attention has had nothing but negative consequences for her and her family, and never brought them closer to an answer. Lane wins her trust when his unconventional methods show promise, but he has his own motivations for wanting to solve the case, and his obsession with the answer will ultimately risk both their lives. Superbly written, taut and compassionate, Wake looks at what can happen when people's private tragedies become public property, and the ripples of trauma that follow violent crimes. Wake won the CWA Debut Dagger in 2019.

Another Aussie crime writer. Kept me reading. PI with his own issues and looking into old disappearances of young girls in a small country town. Hope we see more of her writing.

Jeg @Teresereading I was recently culling books and found it. I got it on one of my trips. It‘s from the National Portrait Gallery in London. I love it too. Memories of a great trip and visit. 3mo

A decent written thriller/mystery. It took a little while for me to get into and the ending felt a bit rushed but I liked the characters, especially Lane, and their ambiguities. A low pick. #auldlangspine

Just been away for the weekend in the Hunter Valley with my sisters & mum for a girl‘s weekend to watch The Chicks play at Bimbagen Estate for Day on the Green. Was very relaxing. Lots of wine tasting & yummy food. I started this book by a friend of mine‘s estranged daughter for my book club, The Stockton Hornbags. I‘m enjoying it so far. My friend & I went to see her at the Newcastle Writer‘s Festival this year. She has since released another.

#AutumnPlease #Day11 #SmallTownMurder This one is Shelley Burrs debut novel about the kidnapping & murder of a young girl in an outback town in NSW Australia. It‘s one of those books that stay with you, and her 2nd,which I‘ve just read, is exactly the same. Can‘t recommend this new Aussie author enough. #Scarathlon #SpookyGhostClub 6pts

PI Lane looks into cold cases and approaches Mina, whose sister Evelyn disappeared almost 20 years ago. She‘s reluctant to let him or anyone in but he starts investigating regardless. This is a terrific, taut debut mystery set in the Australian Outback. I just loved it and can‘t wait to see what Burr writes next.

Day 2 of Newie Writer‘s fest ✅ 1st up was the laid back Holly Throsby. This was the view out of the window of the lecture theatre I was sitting in. Gorgeously distracting. Next up was Jessie Cole then the tagged book‘s author. I have her first manuscript that was never published even though offers were made. Next was Chloe Hooper & last was Jane Harper whose public speaking skills have improved somewhat since last I heard her speak. Thank god.

DivineDiana Fabulous view! Have fun! 13mo

I enjoyed this mystery set in Australia. It‘s by a debut author and I‘m looking forward to seeing what she writes next. This one has a lot of layers, maybe one or two too many, but it kept my interest throughout.

This was my #BookSpin #DoubleSpin for October

I finished a book!!🙌 This was a really good thriller/mystery by a new Aussie author. Set in outback NSW, in a small town called Nannine, the only thing that‘s happened was the disappearance of Mina McCreevy‘s twin sister Evelyn 19yrs ago. Now living with the aftermath on her disused sheep station, she‘s shaken when Lane Holland appears, claiming to be a PI interested in her case. Well written with a great ending. #BookspinBingo #Doublespin for May

Yes I know, another #readathon that I‘ll fail at, but I‘m trying I promise! At least I managed 7hrs so far alternating between the #audiobook of the 1st Black Dagger Brotherhood book(Dark Lover)& this signed debut novel by Australian crime writer Shelley Burr. Winner of the CWA Debut Dagger award, it‘s set in a small outback NSW town about a PI & a woman trying to live with the baggage of her sisters disappearance 19yrs ago. Wish me luck! #20in4

Andrew65 Good luck, great to have you playing along. 😊 Already well on track for 20 hours in the 4 days. 2y
