Advent: Festive German Bakes to Celebrate the Coming of Christmas | Anja Dunk
7 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
Advent celebrates the magical run-up to Christmas with over 100 classic German baking recipes. The Advent season is one of the most special times of the year, when candles twinkle, the Christmas tree is decorated, and the smells of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove fill the kitchen. In her new cookbook Advent, Anja Dunk shares her recipes for the very best of traditional German festive bakes. From lightly spiced Lebkuchen, frosted cinnamon stars, jam-filled ginger hearts, snow-capped coconut macaroons, to marzipan-filled Stollen, edible tree decorations, lucky meringue mushrooms and a gingerbread house dripping with candies and sugar icicles, you will find delectable spiced treats to fill your Bunter Teller and share with friends and family. Featuring Anjas own linocut illustrations and evocative photography, this is a stunning, comforting clothbound volume that will be a family favourite for many years to come. The weeks of Advent hold all the sweet, almost unbearable anticipation of Christmas for days on end and this gorgeous book embraces that fairy-tale feeling within its pages.

Inspired by @catiewithac I‘ve make Christmas cookies! I love this book and want to live with the author for the month of December! She bakes a different cookie, filling a different vintage cookie tin every day of December. So by the time 24th rolls by her kitchen is filled with baked loveliness! I made one cookie! It‘s a start!

Cupcake12 These look yummy and definitely would not last long in my house with the girls and me 🤣 1y

I so could not keep up with the intention of this book - to bake a cookie every day for advent! So I‘m a tad behind and will probably finish my 24 different cookies goal sometime mid February! Today was a homage to marzipan!

MicrobeMom Looks delicious! ♥️ 2y
Kappadeemom I‘m totally down for a cookie a day😂😂 2y
Mitch @MicrobeMom I thought I‘d made too many - but it seems not! 🤣 2y

Making my way through this beauty this advent season. Tried the cinnamon roast almonds recipe. Really good. My house smelled like a Christmas market.

I love this book - it immediately makes me want to be German and make cookies for 24 days straight and display them of a beautiful Bunter Teller! Thought of you lots whilst reading this @Deifio ♥️

Deifio Yeah, you know I've never heard of a Bunter Teller 😂 But we do put out a plate of various Christmas biscuits, it's just not called a Bunter Teller here, it's called a Plätzchenteller (Christmas biscuits plate). Tbh I've never had more than 4 different types at a time ☺️ 2y
Mitch @Deifio you shatter all my illusions! Still 4 different types I can aspire too! 2y
Deifio There's people who make like 10 or 12 different types! I just never managed, I only make my favourite ones 😁 2y

Mitch @Deifio we‘re going to try to make thee this year - Marzipan Spritzgebäck, Stollen bites and Lebkuchen ?? 2y
Deifio Nice! Have fun! 2y
elkeOriginal I gave this book to my German mother and she was floored - by all the recipes but also how gorgeous the whole book is inside and out. It is a winner! 2y
Mitch @elkeOriginal it‘s beautiful. Made the Stollen bites today! 2y

In keeping with the spirit of and advent calendar that has a little story or treat each day, I though I would read (at least) a chapter a day for the #Adventathon from @ozma.of.oz

BookmarkTavern A great idea! Enjoy your chapters! ❤️ 2y
