If there‘s a Wayfarers hole in your reading life, this might just be the book (clearly the start of a series) to fill it! Captain Larsen and her ragtag crew are catapulted into adventure when they board the bio ship “You Sexy Thing”. The sentient ship was my favorite character!

Well this was everything I needed - an adrenaline filled, diverse, good guys versus bad guys space adventure. Imagine Firefly but most of the crew are aliens. Or Becky Chambers Wayfarer series with the adrenaline amped up. Or Murderbot with more aliens and no cyborgs. And the crew are currently running a gourmet restaurant. What more enticement do you need?

Sort of the Culture meets The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I dug it.

Bk4 of March is done! Took me awhile to start reading, not the book, just a lot going on right now. But when I did read it, it was worth the effort. I‘d sub categorise it as “space gang adventure!”Captain Niko walked away from the Hive Mind to start a restaurant called Last Chance & took her unit with her. Well.Hasn‘t this been the week from hell! First, it‘s been raining so long I‘m thinking of hiring an ark, then I leave the house for the 1st time in months to take the grandkids to dinner,we can‘t get a table then the heavens open on us,now today the hubby(who is my carer)is really sick and tests positive for COVID! So I‘m hunkered down & sleeping in my library, wearing a mask in my own house. This book better be good coz I need distracting🤦🏻‍♀️

I have been dying to read both the tagged book and Light From Uncommon Stars, I needed another bullet journal and the pens, both of which will be getting used regularly, the sticky notes are adorable & the bookmarks have already had my daughter sniffing around. Then the huge booksleeve! I love everything❤️❤️❤️❤️

I heard about this one awhile back & it always stuck with me because the title made me laugh. I don't read SF often, but I do enjoy it with humor (ie Scalzi & Douglas Adams). Might read it this week...🔫🚀

I realized I never posted my December #bookspinbingo card and wanted to add it for my own continuity. I was 8 books short of my Goodreads goal, but I read right up until midnight on New Year‘s Eve and went out fighting!

Former soldiers from the Hive Mind have been running a restaurant together - The Last Chance. The day the top restaurant critic is due for a visit, there is a big explosion and they escape in a bioship owned by an uber wealthy customer. It is space opera, found family, and foodie all together, so I bet this will work for many readers. I'm hoping we get more of the story!

This is fine. And yes, that‘s the half shoulder shrug with a slightly funny expression type of fine. The multi-POV wasn‘t intrusive, but left characters feeling under developed. Plenty happened, but it felt like an origin story… even tho it‘s about retirees. The emotional arcs felt like straight lines, more told than earned. Lots of great ingredients I love, but the final dish just didn‘t get me excited. It‘s not bad, but I didn‘t love it.

“When it came to retiring from the Holy Hive Mind, there were few acceptable ways—most of its soldiers stayed in the army until they died, and a few of them long after that.”
