Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy (Book II: Greater Good)
Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy (Book II: Greater Good) | Timothy Zahn
6 posts | 7 read | 2 to read
Thrawn and his allies race to save the Chiss Ascendancy from an unseen enemy in the second book in the epic Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy from bestselling author Timothy Zahn. Thrawn’s latest triumph still rests newly on his shoulders. He has led the Chiss to victory and brought glory to the House of Mitth, but the true threat to the Ascendancy has not yet been extinguished. Their foes do not send threats or ultimatums, do not mass ships on the edge of the Chaos. Their weapons come cloaked in smiles and generosity: Gifts offered freely. Services granted unconditionally. Across the Ascendancy, seemingly inconsequential events could herald the doom of the Chiss. As Thrawn and the Expansionary Defense Fleet rally to uncover the plot, they discover a chilling truth: Rather than invade Chiss capitals or pillage resources, their enemy strikes at the very foundation of the Ascendancy, seeking to widen the rifts between the Nine Ruling Families and the Forty Great Houses below. As rivalry and suspicion sow discord among allies, each warrior must decide what matters most to them: the security of their family or the survival of the Ascendancy itself.

Thrawn has usurped Palpatine as my number 2 most favorite villain is the SWU! His calculating tactics, subtle malicious undertones, outward calm…here for it. Timothy Zahn has always had a way with this character and even if I HATED Tomie in this book - wanted to shove her out an airlock the ENTIRE. TIME! - I enjoyed this book immensely.

Soft pick for me. I was happy to meet the familiar characters again, but wished we'd stayed more with them. The plot was interesting, but didn't catch my attention the whole time. All in all it's a good, but not outstanding book, even though Thrawn would be such an impressive character...

In book 2 of Thrawn Ascendancy, Jixtus tries to start a civil was among the Chiss while Thrawn is working on tracking down the last of the pirates from the last book.

In March we finished The Alphabet Squadron Trilogy with Victory's Price. It garnered some mixed reviews but in my opinion it was at least the best of the Trilogy. What did everyone think?
April finds us back with Thrawn in Ascendancy Greater Good. I'm looking forward to this one. I love Thrawn & Zahn's writing.

I feel like I don't absorb as much information when I listen to an audiobook. So, while I might not catch every call back and connection to the previous books, Zahn's second modern Thrawn trilogy is still enjoyable complex and wildly entertaining.

Suet624 I‘m the same way with audiobooks. Fiction especially. 2y
