I was concerned that this book might provide fodder to the anti-trans and trans-phobic people out there by having a main character who has detransitioned. I should not have been concerned. I can‘t say enough good things about this book. It is so good and covers so many important things in a way that just feels natural. This book needs to win all the awards and everyone should read it. So good!

This title😍! Just so great.....
This book is witty, unique, messy, complex and heartfelt. I learnt a lot, fell in love with the characters, and loved the way it navigated the complicated topics of parenting, motherhood, fatherhood, sex and gender, and relationships... A really eye-opening, thought-provoking, fantastic read....

This book gets to the heart of feelings women, both cis and trans, have about motherhood. Reese is trans and desperately wants to be a mother. Ames has detransitioned F->M and has accidentally impregnated his boss Katrina. Both have concerns about parenthood, but Ames thinks adding his former lover Reese as a third parent may give the baby the stability it needs. I know this sounds odd, but it is a beautifully written exploration of gender! ⬇️

Megabooks ⬆️ Detransitioning is going back to one‘s assigned at birth (original) gender, which is what Ames did. James -> Amy -> Ames. He has a very complicated relationship with gender, which is delicately handled by the author. The book moves back and forth in time from pre-conception to post-conception. #audiobook book 1 #slumpathon @Hestapleton (edited) 3y
Cinfhen That premise is hard to wrap my head around but I totally trust your instincts #Stacked 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen it is. But the author handles having an audience that may not fully understand this trans experience really well. Not only did I enjoy the plot and characters, I learned a lot. 3y

Cinfhen 👍🏻sounds great\ I‘m gonna look for the audio 3y
BarbaraBB So you think I should read it? 3y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB it is a bit more contemporary than literary, although I think you would find the treatment of the subject matter every bit as fascinating as I. This is a hardcover new release here (like this week), so possibly wait for a few more reviews and see price in EU before you decide. I am more confident in @Cinfhen enjoying it than you, especially since the audio is so good. I think I am the third to review it here. (Two others had ARCs and ⬇️ 3y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB wrote blog posts if you look back on the book‘s page.) 3y

Yes! All the stars for this own voices novel about three women and motherhood. The three main characters were so rich and complex. I loved the idea of family and community that is highlighted in this novel as well as the very prevalent narrative that the way most folks do things is not the only way. Will be on lots of best of lists for 2021, I am sure. #ARC #Netgalley
