FINALLY! Not sure if I‘m the only one who is UNREASONABLY excited about this, but #Scribd finally added 2.5x and 3x speed on their audiobooks! I‘m thinking that 2023 will finally be the year I make use of my $14/month subscription. I had a habit of choosing other audiobooks platforms, simply because I could listen at my preferred faster speed.

I‘m not going to lie, I‘m ready for them to add 3.5x and 4x on ALL platforms too though. 🤣🙈

Suet624 I can't even imagine what that sounds like. 1y
Clwojick @Suet624 I mean, I think 3x sounds normal but I‘m sure that‘s just cause I‘m used to it. I use headphones, so since all background noise is blocked out , it‘s easy to listen and focus on. But if I just play it on my phones speaker, I agree with my husband when he calls is my “chipmunk books”. 🤣 1y
Suet624 hahahaha. The most I can handle is 1.25. But I also don't listen to many audiobooks. Maybe over time I would be able to increase the speed. Sure would allow me to read more books! 1y

DieAReader @Clwojick 🐿️🐿️😂😂 1y
SconsinBookyBadger That‘s some fast audiobooking! Best I can do is 2x maaaaybe 2.25x if the narrator is a slow talker. 1y
Clwojick @Suet624 I almost exclusively do audiobooks, since it allows me to multitask. And I work a lot of solo shifts, so when I‘m the only one in my office, I just throw in the audiobooks. It‘s definitely helped to increase my reading stats. 1y
Clwojick @AnansiGirl That‘s still pretty quick. It took me time to build up to this speed. And I agree that it all depends on the narrator. Whenever I read classics, I normally slow it down, so I can follow along better. Or uk/Irish authors that use slang I‘m not familiar with. But I tend to read lots of mysteries, and romances. A lot of similar plots, so I don‘t feel like I‘m missing much when I speed it up. 1y
SamAnne I can only do 1.25 or 1.5. I did speed up on The Violence to 2.0 or 2.5 because I didn‘t like the book but wanted to know how it ended. 🙄🙄 1y
Laughterhp They just added 2.5! Wow! I listen to audiobooks at 2.0 sometimes 2.10 or 2.25. Unless they have an accent and I‘m struggling to understand what they‘re saying! Then it‘s 1.75! 1y
Megabooks I need them all to be as adjustable as Libby. I‘m a big fan of 2.25x and rarely get that!! 1y
Clwojick @Megabooks Agreed! I love that Chirp can go up by 0.1x increments. ❤️ 1y
Hitchhikerbooks Shut the front door! When did this happen, and why have I not seen it already! #scribd 1y
StayCurious Wow…for me it has to be 1 ie normal speed. And even then I sometimes have to rewind if I feel I miss something. The only thing I can do while audiobooking is cross stitch or crafting. Anything else requires me to concentrate. Funny how people are different! 1y

I'd love to hear your opinions / experiences about Scribd. I'm thinking of cancelling my Audible subscription because I don't use it that much. I'd mostly use it for audiobooks. 🎧

StaceGhost I used it a lot in the past but sometimes the audiobooks would crash or the app would suddenly close— it wasn‘t worth it for me. My library app worked much better 2y
rachelm I love LibroFM. It has a huge selection and pays your indie bookstore. I also love Hoopla and Libby from my library. Haven‘t used the one you mention though 2y
starlight97 @StaceGhost I see, thanks! 2y

starlight97 @rachelm thanks for the tips! 2y
Tera66 Scribed works great for me and they have a good selection. It's cheaper too. 2y
starlight97 @Tera66 that's great to hear, thank you! 2y

Okay Scribd users... talk to me about Scribd. Is it worth it? My primary use would be for audiobooks. Are titles truly available? Is there a decent selection? Is it truly unlimited? I need to up my reading and audiobooks have helped, but I'm tired of having to wait for my holds to become available with Libby.

StayCurious I love it. There are so many audiobooks on there - more so then ebooks I‘d say. I think there‘s a very decent selection. 4y
aperfectmjk @StayCurious do they offer new releases in a timely manner? Sometimes with Libby my holds we take 6 months or more to become available. 4y
katy4peas There is a decent selection of titles. It is like Netflix in that the titles change as the publisher agreements change so you will see notices saying that the title is available after or until a certain date. There are tons of audiobooks and some other things like podcasts and articles and ebooks. I like it. 4y

katy4peas I can often find the new release titles either there or through Libro.fm rather than waiting for the hold thru Libby. There are no wait lists so it is much more timely. 4y
StayCurious @aperfectmjk yeah I‘d say so. I often see audiobooks and I‘m actually surprised they have it. Obviously they‘re not quite as big as audible - but audible is so expensive for one credit a month. And they‘re new audible plus is a joke 4y
katy4peas They also do a good job with having entire series available so you can binge listen a whole series all in a row! 4y
aperfectmjk Thanks @katypeas @StayCurious I don't use Audible, though I do have Kindle Unlimited. I just think Audible is ridiculously expensive for the limitations that are set. Maybe I'll do the free trial in October and see how I like it. 4y
katy4peas I prefer libro.fm over audible. You basically pay for a free credit every month which you can use on any audiobook, but you also receive discounts and can buy audiobooks as well. Every purchase, even credits, count towards supporting a local bookstore of your choice. The support is great, the staff will easily refund you a credit if you don‘t like the book- I‘ve done this 2x and they offer personalized recs for you. It‘s the same price as audible 4y
katy4peas If you are interested I can send you my referral code. I think they have a much better selection than audible does as well. At least for the books that I want to read. Plus I am supporting local, independent bookstores over amazon. 🤷🏼‍♀️ you can also cancel or suspend anytime and the books are yours to keep. Credits don‘t expire either. I love it. Anyway, let me know if you want more info 👍🏼 4y
xicanti Re: the unlimited aspect, it really isn‘t. During my trial month, I was able to listen to 3 books from my Saved list and 4 others before they severely limited my access to Scribd Originals only. In the months I‘ve paid for, I‘ve only been able to listen to 3-4 audiobooks total before the limits kick in. The ebook limits are much higher, though; I got through 30 things during my trial, so I assume the regular cutoff is around 20 titles. 4y
aperfectmjk @xicanti 3-4 audiobooks doesn't sound like it will be very helpful to me. That's disappointing. I really enjoy using Libby because there is no limit on the number of titles I can listen to per month, but the only problem is availability. I don't always get to go with my first choice, so I'm finding it difficult to plan out any kind of reading. 4y

I‘ve now done 1 month of Scribd, and I‘ve got notes for those considering it:

• it‘s not REALLY unlimited. I read 7 audios and ~30 other things before it cut me off
• the cut-off wasn‘t total. I was only barred from stuff I‘d saved, by those authors, or tagged as v. similar to them
• despite the limits, I‘ve paid for another month
• if you want to try it and you use my referral link, we each get 1 free month: https://www.scribd.com/gi/8e9too

Anyone have scribd? What do you think compared to Kindle Unlimited and/or Audible?

Megabooks I‘m not enjoying Scrbd for audiobooks because they never seem to have the ones I want. There seem to be limited copies based on some algorithm I‘m losing, but @Cinfhen is loving it. 4y
Cinfhen It‘s working well for me but I still prefer Audible❤️I think Scribd is a better deal than Kindle Unlimited if you‘re looking for newer books. 4y
Samary @Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks! I signed up for the free 30 day trial. I‘m finding more modern audiobooks on scribd but I hate that I can‘t read it on my kindle. Unlimited doesn‘t have what I‘m looking for, for the most part. All the options out there have such different offerings! 🙂 between audible and Overdrive I Find all the audiobooks I‘ve wanted so far. 4y

Hooked_on_books Oh wow! Thanks for posting—this is amazing! 4y
RachelAmphlett The Libby app is better for free books because it supports libraries and ensures authors receive a few cents per borrow too. Scribd doesn‘t pay authors anything for doing this 😞 4y
Avanders Awwww 🥰🥰 4y
BethM @RachelAmphlett as much as I love my library their digital content is underfunded and lacking. It says that authors get paid when you read or listen based on contracts 🤷‍♀️ 4y
RachelAmphlett @BethM not if the books are free. Agree with what you say about libraries though 4y
BethM @RachelAmphlett oh so you‘re saying if someone downloads the free month then authors don‘t get paid? 4y
RachelAmphlett @BethM that‘s my understanding, yes. It‘s why I don‘t list my books with them 4y
