Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red
Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red | Reardon
27 posts | 40 read | 25 to read
At the turn of the twentieth century, Ellen Rimbauer became the young bride of Seattle industrialist John Rimbauer, and began keeping a remarkable diary. This diary became the secret place where Ellen could confess her fears of the new marriage, her confusion over her emerging sexuality, and the nightmare that her life would become. The diary not only follows the development of a girl into womanhood, it follows the construction of the Rimbauer mansioncalled Rose Redan enormous home that would be the site of so many horrific and inexplicable tragedies in the years ahead. The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red is a rare document, one that gives us an unusual view of daily life among the aristocracy in the early 1900s, a window into one womans hidden emotional torment, and a record of the mysterious events at Rose Red that scandalized Seattle society at the timeevents that can only be fully understood now that the diary has come to light. Edited by Joyce Reardon, Ph.D. as part of her research, the diary is being published as preparations are being made by Dr. Reardon to enter Rose Red and fully investigate its disturbing history.

A friend gave this to me since we've been on a spooky book kick recently.
I was super confused having seen the miniseries by Stephen King how this related. As it turns out this was part of their marketing for the miniseries, which I find super cool.
It's an easy read and I think it's done really well. I've read some books acting as diaries or letters that just don't follow the format but this reads as a diary.

I actually really loved this. I have read it a couple of times. I also loved the mini series. If you are interested give it a chance.

I loved the miniseries Rose Red when it came out, so when I found this book at a local bookstore a few years ago I just had to have it.

Well, I need to add the Thornewood Castle (where they filmed Rose Red) to my go to list since it's only 4 hours away 🤷‍♀️ I've had this book a while and upon googling found it was made as marketing material for the Rose Red miniseries, but haven't read it yet. Rose Red is on my to watch list for this month.

night_shift The castle is a bed and breakfast. Some folks say it's haunted, but I'll pretty sure some folks say every old building is haunted. Comments also tell me that many a failed marriage started there lol 5y
BeansPage OMG I love this book so much!!! And I love the miniseries. But definitely read the book first because it actually explains the ghosts that you see in the miniseries! It will make more sense to you once you've read the book. 5y
night_shift @TheReadingMermaid I may have to throw it on my a October stack lol - thanks! 5y

I really enjoyed this book. It‘s a different format than I‘m used to. I think the last diary book I read was Anne Frank. I haven‘t seen the miniseries since it aired. I need to see if I have it on dvd somewhere.

On the way to Vegas with some friends and we each have the role of a typical family. My sister and her girlfriend are in the front being mom and dad. My friend and I are in the back. He‘s playing a video game and I‘m reading. 😂

Day 1. Current read. The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer. It‘s a tie-in novel for the Rose Red mini series by Ridley Pearson. Joyce Reardon is a fictional character who appears in the mini series. #30junebooks

First round of #LMPBC offish complete and sent back to you @TheReadingMermaid ! Thanks for the read! Horror/Thriller is my usual genre of choice so this was up my alley. While I found the ending a little underwhelming, it definitely makes me want to find the film counterpart! Thanks for the read! 🥰

#GroupO #WomenReading - ladies, I sent my nonfiction pick off to @TheReadingMermaid as well - should arrive Thursday. 🤗

2/5⭐ I like the Rose Red TV mini series, but these characters didn't feel like the ones in the show or like fleshed-out people at all. I wasn't thrilled with the audio narration. Nothing was scary, especially because we're being told it in a diary entry after the fact. The weird sexual dynamic at the end seemed bizarrely out of place. I recommend any fans of the show just fill in the blanks of the Rimbauers with their own ideas. #OWLsReadathon2019

Rose Red took me about half the book to get into. I expected not to like the book with how long it took me to find interest, but by the end, I was intrigued by the idea of Rose Red and the game that the novel plays with the readers head.

@Julie548 , I will be sending this out this week when I send a few other packages.

Mine is tagged. I almost didn't read it because I thought it was just an adaptation of the made-for-tv movie. Come to find out it was actually the prequel to the movie. I absolutely adore this book ❤️🖤❤️
What's yours?

RedLeaves Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Read it only on one of my sisters' insistence and LOVED IT 6y
jb72 For me it was Dickens. I almost didn‘t read it. I of course had seen many adaptions of it in movies. It is a fantastic book too! I‘ve read it a few times. 6y

⭐️⭐️ Stopped the Bardo audiobook. Couldn't handle that switching every sentence mess. Now listening to this one, which my library listed Stephen King as the author. 😬

A must-read for fans of the mini-series Rose Red, The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer takes us to the roots of this haunted mansion, giving readers the story behind the living house. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Ellen and her maid, Sukeena.
