“It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.”

A dark mythology set in relatively modern times, I enjoyed this story. It took a bit to get my bearings in this realistic fantasy world; it would have been helpful to have a key term's pronunciation established in a preface - (singular) capall uisce: CAPple ISHka (plural) capaill uisce: COPple OOSHka. That aside, an intriguing story that I didn't want to put down. Definitely looking at horses differently now.

For having a very simple plot, the story-telling was magnificent. The way the author wrote quickly swept me off my feet, and the lore was incredible even with no complete explanation of it. The characters were fleshed-out well and the pacing was incredible— not too slow or too fast. Even the sprinkle of romance was flavorful. Loved it.

I just picked up this book from the library in anticipation of my first real vacation this year! I‘m anxious, burnt out, & broke— either the best or the worst way to go on vacation, I haven‘t decided yet.
Maybe it‘s Pluto going back to Capricorn one last time, maybe it‘s the upcoming full moon, maybe it‘s the Tower card I‘ve been pulling or the demolition dreams I‘ve had but I need a transformation and release. Anyone else? #travelingstars

Thank you to @Bookzombie for recommending this one. I really enjoyed this stand alone. The island of Thisby was magical gritty and mystical. The water horses were dangerous and mysterious. As a scientist, I kept thing humanity finally had a predator and Sean reminds me of a mix between a horse whisperer and lion tamer. Puck is a strong and fun female character. 4 ⭐️s
Look a YA novel for a spin. This is well worth it. This is a story of down on your luck people doing extraordinary things, with a bit of magic. The magic here is provided by the water horses of Thisby Island. These at times monstrous creatures come out of the sea, eat meat, and are fast as the devil. The Scorpio Races draw the best and the eager every year for the chance at fame and the prize it brings. Who will survive is the question?

I splurged during the @owlcrate sale and was excited to see the Scorpio Races box on there as a big fan of Maggie Stiefvater. I can‘t wait to use everything! Makes me want November to come for a reread!

Love my new Scorpio Races custom edges edition from TheCraftyReader01 on Etsy. This is the perfect way to complete my collection…. Until I find another edition I can‘t live without 😬

One of my favorite books of all-time and my fourth copy!
This is Owlcrate's TSR 10th anniversary collector's edition box which was released last October. And yes, I just got it. But better late than never, eh?
In my defense, I don't subscribe to Owlcrate (or any other bookish subscription services for that matter). Nor do I consider myself a Maggie Stiefvater fan (this is the only book of hers I've ever read—will try to remedy that, though).

I remember first reading this book in junior high, and to the surprise of nobody, this is still a really exciting book. I had forgotten the ending, which pushed me to read it fast. The only thing I'd want to see more of is what happens after the ending we get a glimpse of. It left me wanting more.
Also, I would never want to live in this world.

This novel is part of my heart. I can't even tell you how this novel grabs, teases, drenches my emotions with the joy of reading. I'm in love with all of the characters and the horses. The relationship between Puck and her brothers is awesome. I recommend this novel to everyone. It's gorgeous and utterly feel good read.

My #OwlCrate 10th anniversary edition of The Scorpio Races box delivered! Everything is super appropriate for the world of TSR!
Loving the blue and white blanket scarf that can be worn as a poncho, complete with hood!
The tea smells beautiful and I bet it will taste just as delicious!
I should make this a re-read, it was such an emotional book. One that stuck with me long after finishing it. I‘m sure the second time I‘ll be just as touched!

#OwlCrate alert!
If you like/love the tagged book, then you‘ll want to get your hands on this ten year anniversary edition of The Scorpio Races!
I ordered mine.
Soon it will be November 1st and someone will die.

I have just finished this book. There were strong characters, a good plot, and a neat ending. The one thing that I didn't like was the fact that the actual race didn't start until the end of the book. I would have liked it a lot more if the races happened in the beginning or middle, and focused more on what happened after the race. It made the beginning and middle slightly boring. I would rate this a three out of five.

“It‘s the first day of November and so, today someone will die”
These haunting words set the whole tone of the story.
This story is beautiful but fearsome - I loved every minute.
I grew to admire the two main characters: the brooding, mysterious Sean Kendrick and the bold, determined “Puck”.
A simple plot which you can‘t help but be pulled into. A courageous spellbinding tale which I didn‘t want to end.

Up next to read...managed to get this from the library so hope it‘s good @TheAromaofBooks #newyearwhosis

In the middle of all this, as Sean slips out of his jacket, he looks over his shoulder and he smiles at me, just a glancing, faint thing before he turns back to Tommy. I'm quite happy for that smile, because Dad told me once you should be grateful for the gifts that are the rarest.

It‘s the FIRST DAY OF NOVEMBER!
Which means National Novel Writing Month starts; I‘m participating!
This tagged book has touched me deep inside, the scenes and emotions live long after I‘ve listened to the audiobook. 🐎🖤

My last but not least book for #bookspinbingo for October. Just finished it. Loved it soooo much. Such a unique story and it felt fresh and ancient at the same time. Pretty good month for me overall. 🥰

@sharread wanted to let you know I‘m starting this one today. I know you asked for me to tag you in our last #litsylove letter and didn‘t want to forget! 😅 I‘m quite excited and hope to get a good start. No idea if I‘ll finish this month but I‘m gonna try!

You have to love a book which starts: It is the first day of November so today, someone will die. Every year on Thisby the water horses are raced. Puck has lost her mom and dad to the horses but she wants to be the first girl to ride in the Scorpio Races. Sean is the past champion. Story leads up to the day of the yearly race. Well written.

I love the aesthetic around the setting of the book: the island, the sea, dangerous horses that come from the sea, a race that defies love. It truly captured my attention instantaneously.
Puck Connolly might just be the best character I‘ve ever read about. She was so brave & true! And Sean Kendrick!! Oh my! Even his name is gorgeous! I have to say, I haven‘t fallen in love with a male character in so long, not since Tobias Eaton from Divergent.

My 6th read for #ReadYourSign #Scorpio
🦂 Book by a Scorpio author
🦂 Water heavily mentioned in the book
I found myself getting quite into this book as it went along. I wish there was a bit more at the end about what happened after the races, like how the island reacted to the result and if Holly‘s prediction came true (though with Dove and Corr). I loved the imagery and longing for the sea in the book, it makes me want to visit the ocean. 7/10

I love Irish and Scottish folklore because it is both beautiful and dangerous, grown much like the land it comes from. And while Scorpio Races is set against the backdrop of mystical water horses and an island they‘re drawn to, it‘s really so much more. I loved the characters, and while reading the pages, I was there, living amongst them. Maggie has a talent for bringing words to life. This book has seared a permanent place in my heart.

I'm a bit behind on reviews!! This one was pick no. 8 for May's #BookSpinBonanza. I hadn't read it in several years, so I couldn't remember the details or how everything came together - just that I had liked it! It's a great story with such a sense of place and season. More violent than I remembered, but not gratuitously so. This one is staying on my shelves!!
PS @Clwojick I kept thinking that carnivorous water horses would be your nightmare!!

I just have to find my copy of The Scorpio Races and I‘m ready to go for #ReadYourSign 🦂
Even managed to get a black and red colour scheme, though most of the books fit other prompts as well!

Well I didn't achieve my #24b4Monday goal of 1000 pages - ended up working 9hrs on Friday & then the weather was so perfect that my husband and I devoted the weekend to "groundskeeping" - but I did still manage to squeeze in 702pgs, plus the garden is planted, everything is mowed/trimmed, gutters cleaned, and the fish pond has been cleaned AND has gotten an addition!! Just a little more work this morning to finish up!!

Loved this book so much! The audio production is absolutely stellar and I found my self reading the print version along with the audio.
