3 stars, but more So-So than Pick for me. Entertaining enough for me to finish the 1st duology, but I won‘t be continuing. I was curious since A Fate Inked in Blood by the same author is a BOTM on my upcoming TBR (still excited for). This feels incorrectly marketed as romantasy - yes, there‘s a steamy romance, but no magic or fantasy elements (unless you count characters‘ inexplicable ability to run/climb/swim/fight while fatally wounded).

“A warrior princess trained in isolation, Lara is driven by two certainties. The first is that King Aren of the Bridge Kingdom is her enemy. And the second is that she'll be the one to bring him to his knees.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Over all I recommend this book for some light hearted romantic fantasy, especially the well produced audio. I love some angst, so the ending has me ramped up for starting the next book in the series.

Pros:
-Great audible narration
-Bad ass assassin protagonist with a heart of gold
-A male lead with love on his sleeve

Cons
-motivations feel cartoony at times (like over the top villainy or goodness)

A little chiché, as it relies heavily on a trope (marrying a man with no intention to love him, yet falling in love nonetheless). However, I enjoyed the simplicity of those common elements, and I believe the world building makes it quite original in its own way. The narration of the audiobook is good.

As a side note, the sharks annoy me. This is fantasy: create your own sea monsters instead of perpetuating the myth that sharks are men killers.

I've been gone from the community for awhile. Life has been... intense.

As for the series tagged, I enjoyed the premise & liked the characters. Not life changing but definitely entertaining.

I know I often say that the books that I choose are impulse reads, but this really was an impulse read at 5:30 in the morning because I couldn‘t sleep and man was it good. Second book already open, third book not out yet…😩 in hindsight, it probably didn‘t help me sleep at all…

WJCintron I have it on my TBR!!! Can't wait!! 2y

It was a decent enemies-to-lovers but not worth the hype. The plot was a bit predictable and I wish there were more world-building and things other than romance.

I will read the sequel but probably won't reread

Rayleigh_LitAp I read another book by this author and wasn‘t too impressed with it for similar reasons 2y
LaurelChandler @Reigh_LitAp Which one did you read? I might still try her works. I read book 2 and really liked it 2y

If you liked TOG, ACOTAR, and/or FBAA the chances that you‘ll like this book are veryyyy good! I loved it!❤️ one of the things I loved the most though was that she was a badass! Now with that being said I don‘t think I‘ve ever yelled at a book so much 😂😅 ☠️Spoilers and more of my thoughts in the comments☠️😌☺️

evieskrazobssessions I knew those letters she wrote were gonna come back and ruin everything! Every time they came up I would yell at her to just TELL him🤦‍♀️and when he sent the letter but didn‘t tell her ugh🤦‍♀️ I get why they didn‘t tell each other but soooooo much could‘ve been saved if they just had told each other! And then the ending man that ending pulled at my heart strings as for sure! Anyway I just started the second one, I‘ll keep you guys updated! 2y
CrowCAH Love your passionate review! Added to the TBR. 2y

It‘s not like it‘s the worst written book I‘ve read. I‘ve read worse. I think I have read better in the genre. I felt like there was a lot of repetitive scenes written slightly differently.

Book #46: This was a little too much about inter nation politics for me. I actually already started the second book in the series and I‘m liking it so much more so I didn‘t want to write a totally negative review for the first one. It‘s really just a personal preference. Definitely sets up the series at least.

BINGO 🎉 I enjoyed this though Jensen sometimes needs to trust her reader to get there if that makes sense lol. Its an interesting fantasy with a princess sent to marry the enemy and kill him. I definitely will read book 2.

A little late but finally posting my #maywrapup. I definitely got good use out of my #kindleunlimited membership! All but A Court of Thorns and Roses were on my kindle and that was a re-read. I am having a hard time with what I want to read and currently have 8 books going🤦‍♀️. June might be an interesting month....

I was not expecting to get through this book so quickly. I really loved the world building and surprisingly the politics and the way they waged war as well. Those are 2 things I don't always enjoy in books but this one is an exception. #fantasy #kindle

Don‘t judge this book but it‘s ugly cover 😂 I absolutely loved this! The pacing was wonderful and kept me enthralled the entire time. Lara has trained her entire life to be a deadly spy so that she can marry & then take down the king of an enemy country. Island themed so you can expect: snakes, sharks, jungle, hot springs, an impenetrable bridge.

So many people said this is a must read on IG so I grabbed a copy! The cover intrigues me. Hopefully it‘s as good as others have said!
I‘m trying to reacquaint myself with my TBR while on a book buying ban for the month.

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Lara is sent to be a bride to Aren, a King of an enemy kingdom. The goal is to bring the kingdom down. But, what happens once she gets to really know the King and his people?
The Bridge Kingdom is filled with a lot of action. There is a lot of political intrigue. I did find myself bored a bit and wanting more to the romance. The ending wasn‘t super satisfying for me and I guessed one little twist. Still a decent read.

I am not gonna lie, I was anxiety ridden throughout this whole damn book! I kept wondering when (not if) Lara was going to get caught. Lara has been brainwashed since she was little, so the fact that she didn't think the king was a lying POS and didn't questioned the bull he was feeding her was surprising-- to me-- but not to her. She is f**king kick-ass though! Aren? Scrumptious, sweet, and fierce. Rarrr! 😼 I can't wait for the next book!
