I feel bad for saying that this book didn‘t work for me. I rate it as a so-so. I just got so mad at the characters. I wanted them to be different, to be kinder. Trigger warnings for sexual assault/rape and an enormous amount of racism. The racial slurs were in almost every chapter repeatedly, which really frustrated me. I can‘t say that I‘d recommend this book. I was glad when it was over. #unpopularopinion

This book took a bit to get into — as there‘s a lot of backstory — but it was worth the build up. Loved it!
My FAVORITE read of 2018. I had previously read a few meh books, this was such a joy! It got deep,it made me laugh, it was fascinating. A touch of fantasy, a ton of culture, unique well rounded characters that you loved or hated with passion. An amazingly well written book that I must own a copy of! LOVED it!And I never would have picked it up without #LMPBC
The Italian origins and funky superstitions were so fun. And I loved nonna!❤️
An Italian immigrant family living in the mountains of West Virginia with a granddaughter who is covered in port wine stains. People become convinced she is Saint Garnet healer of skin conditions and pilgrims begin coming to visit her to be healed. The Vatican eventually sends someone to investigate and the family history is revealed. #ladymadonna #heyjune
Next up in the #NCBgiveaway is The Patron Saint of Ugly! This one looks so good (check on the Litsy book description)! A blurb on the back calls it "a vastly entertaining story of a reluctant saint, her indelible nonna, and their family's long history of love, trickery, and transcendence." If you want to read it, comment below! (US only ?) and I'll draw names on Tuesday.

My fandom lies in West Virginia books - authors from or books about. I see my neighbors, family, and self in the pages of many of these reads which are beautiful and ugly, terrifying and comforting. "Is it any wonder then, that my heart with rapture thrills..." #octphotochallenge
This book is different but I'm enjoying it.
