The Missing Season
The Missing Season | Gillian French

From the author of Edgar Award finalist Grit and The Lies They Tell comes a tense, atmospheric novel for fans of E. Lockhart and Marieke Nijkamp, about friendship, truth, and the creeping fears that can’t be outrun. Whenever another kid goes missing in October, the kids in the old factory town of Pender know what is really behind it: a monster out in the marshes that they call the Mumbler. That’s what Clara’s new crew tells her when she moves to town. Bree and Sage, who take her under their wing. Spirited Trace, who has taken the lead on this year’s Halloween prank war. And magnetic Kincaid, whose devil-may-care attitude and air of mystery are impossible for Clara to resist. Clara doesn’t actually believe in the Mumbler—not like Kinkaid does. But as Halloween gets closer and tensions build in the town, it’s hard to shake the feeling that there really is something dark and dangerous in Pender. Lurking in the shadows. Waiting to bring the stories to life.

Mehso-so

This book had a cool eerie feeling to it. It was very atmospheric. But I didn‘t care much about the characters or the mystery.

megzlynn Agreed. And I feel like the “romance” was focused on more than the mystery. 6d

Today‘s Prompt

Beach Sand: pick a books that was grainy, and the plot barely developed.

I had highs hopes for The Missing Season, but so far it‘s my least favorite of the year. The focus was so much on the love interest that the mystery and evil character was barely discussed.

Lastly for my #midyear stats my least favorite book. I was so excited when this was released. I figured I would have loved it but it focused more on the love interest than the actual plot.

Too much love triangle, not enough monster. The main character was undeveloped and showed very little character growth. Her inside dialogue was focused almost solely on the love interest leaving very little room for a complex plot. The ending seemed extremely rushed and contrived. ⭐️⭐️

Lovesbooks87 I bailed on this yesterday and I hate doing that. But seeing that you didn't care for it either makes me feel better about my bail! 3mo
megzlynn @Lovesbooks87 I kept thinking it‘s going to get better it has to but it never did. You didn‘t miss anything by bailing on it. Life is too short for mediocre books lol. 3mo

Bailedbailed

I have read this author before and I really enjoyed the book that I read. This book sounded really book but unfortunately I just couldn't get into it. I really tired. I read over 200 pages and I didn't really get what was going on or see where the book was leading me too. I had less than 100 pages to find out who the taking the kids of the town but I didn't really care to find out who was doing it. #24b4monday

JoScho I just downloaded this one from the library. Maybe I will just return it. 3mo
Lovesbooks87 @JoScho I would give it a try. I have been in a reading funk lately so it could just be me! 3mo
