In Peppermint Peril: A Book Tea Shop Mystery | Joy Avon
11 posts | 7 read | 7 to read
Joy Avon's festive series debut featuring a book-themed tea party organizer will be tons of fun this Christmas for Lorna Barrett and Jenn McKinlay fans. In the run-up to Christmas Eve, organizer of book-themed tea parties Callie Aspen and her lovable Boston terrier will have to conquer threefold trouble--a mysterious will, a missing heirloom and a dead body--to restore the festive spirit to their small town. This Christmas, Callie Aspen returns to her childhood hideout Heart's Harbor, Maine where her great aunt runs Book Tea, a vintage tearoom where every sweet treat contains a bookish clue. Upon arrival in the fairy-tale snowy town, Callie is drawn into the preparations for a special tea party at Haywood Hall, the rambling house of Heart's Harbor's oldest resident, rich but lonely widow Dorothea Finster, who invited her estranged relatives, old friends and the elite of the town to make a mysterious announcement about her will. Believing they can touch a part of her fortune, everybody is determined to come, despite not liking each other or even their hostess. And Callie's old friend Sheila complicates things by using the tea party to announce her daughter's engagement, even though her daughter isn't sure she's in love with the young lawyer her mother thinks so perfect for her. Catering to people who each have their own agenda isn't easy for the Book Tea crew, especially once the valuable engagement ring goes missing and a dead body turns up in the conservatory. Can Callie and her great aunt use their love of clues to dig into the crimes and show their unhappy hostess and squabbling guests the true Christmas spirit?

It gets a bit complicated at times, but has a very satisfactory ending. You will love the characters in the town. Callie and her aunt coordinate a tea party at Hayward Hall, where the owner, Dorothea, plans a will reading. Her daughter-in-law Shanghais it for a proposal. But the murder of Leavonby usurps it all.

Another audiobook finished during #DashingDecember. Callie returns to her hometown for the holidays and gets involved in a murder. Set in a small town in Maine, it's a typical cozy mystery with murder, a bit of romance, and family secrets. I enjoyed it. #AVeryMerryReadathon #LittenListen #WinterCosy #WrapItUp #Adventathon #AVeryMerryBingo @Andrew65 @TheSpineView @aperfectmjk @PuddleJumper @keys_on_fire @ozma.of.oz @Jadams1776

I started listening to this one yesterday. So far, the main character tried not to reminisce about her lost love from years before and an arranged marriage between a couple of young characters is in the near future - neither situation a #sappyholidayromance !

The story wasn‘t keeping my interest, so I think I‘ll shelve it for now and move on to a new holiday cozy! 🎄☠️

This is the first book in the series. I stumbled on this one at my local library. It was a decent story. The mystery was a little disappointing but ok....will read book #2 at sometime later good thing the book fits an “I” for my challenges in Goodreads

rather_be_reading Just a reminder that your #HalloweenCardSwap packages were supposed to go out yesterday! Thanks. 5y

I really enjoyed this cozy mystery by Joy Avon. I found the town in Maine, Heart‘s Harbor, to be a very calm and festive place. Having read the book during the Christmas season it helped me get into the spirit! Callie Aspen, was a determined and caring individual. She returns to her childhood town and immediately starts investigating the death of someone from her childhood. She was determined to find justice.

A lovely introduction to the Book Tea Shop Mystery series. It sets up the foundation for future stories perfectly and introduces characters I already love. This begins in very much an Agatha Christie vent with all the suspects brought together for a will reading, before finding the obligatory dead body in the (of course) conservatory. The characters develop as the murder is solved. I‘m looking forward to reading more from this author. #NetGalley
