The blockbuster DC Icons series that began with Leigh Bardugo's Wonder Woman, Marie Lu's Batman, and Sarah J. Maas's Catwoman continues with the story of the world's first super hero--SUPERMAN--from award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author MATT DE LA PEA. When the dawn breaks, a hero rises. His power is beyond imagining. Clark Kent has always been faster, stronger--better--than everyone around him. But he wasn't raised to show off, and drawing attention to himself could be dangerous. Plus, it's not like he's earned his powers . . . yet. But power comes with a price. Lately it's difficult to hold back and keep his heroics in the shadows. When Clark follows the sound of a girl crying, he comes across Gloria Alvarez and discovers a dark secret lurking in Smallville. Turns out, Clark's not the only one hiding something. Teaming up with his best friend, Lana Lang, he throws himself into the pursuit of the truth. What evil lies below the surface of his small town? And what will it cost Clark to learn about his past as he steps into the light to become the future Man of Steel? Because before he can save the world, he must save Smallville. Act fast! The first printing includes a poster of Clark Kent! Each first printing in the DC Icons series has a limited-edition poster--collect them all to create the full image! Don't miss the rest of the DC Icons series! Read the books in any order you choose: * Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo * Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu * Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas

I adored characters! They were really fleshed out and I love them all. I loved Clark: he was loyal to his loved ones, struggled to find out who he really was, experienced his first love....

This was mysterious and had some thrilling scene, but at the same time this was somehow comforting & cozy to read. I loved that + the setting that was somehow endearing.

This was really solid, and had a perfect story arc. I enjoyed this book.

I‘m a die hard, super Superman fan......but i have to say, i didn‘t like this one. The story was hard to really get into. Let‘s just say i powered through this one.

Texreader Oh we just finished the Snyder cut tonight. It was really good. Have you seen it? 3y
Jgacreations @Texreader 85% of it! Finishing it tonight. I love it! 3y

I never really was a Superman fan, and that does play a role in me not loving this book as much as I did the others in the DC Icons series.

This one was extremely predictable and at stages very boring. There was very little action and way to much sitting around waiting for something to happen.

Scochrane26 I only read Wonder Woman & Catwoman. Just not interested in Superman. 4y
Enchanted_Bibliophile @Scochrane26 Those two are the best! Batman also wasn't bad. But I should have done the same and just skipped this one. 4y

The tagged book is the last one I did this with and it totally was worth it. Come to think about it, I do not think there ever was one that was not worth it!
High time to do this again... I just have to find my way back to the books!

As a middle school English teacher, I am always looking for fun and thought provoking teen fiction novels. And as a fan of Superman, I immediately had to read Dawnbreaker. Overall, I thought this was a very solid story. If you can overlook the language, this story encapsulates the heart, soul, and morality of a young Clark Kent. I would recommend this one for teenagers with a warning about the language (not that they say these words, of course!)

I'm not typically a Superman fan (or DC, for that matter), but I have been indulging in the DC Icons Series. This was actually a well-written back story of Clark Kent as a teenager, finding out about his powers, and trying to save Smallville's minority population. The subject matter hits a little too close to home these days. However, we all need hope for a real life Superman to swoop in for justice and to eradicate the prejudices. 4🌟

Superman has always been my least favorite superhero and this book didn‘t do anything to change that. Clark is supposed to be a teenager, but there is 0 teen angst, even after he learns his parents have been lying to him his whole life. Come on, you‘re not even a little mad about that?

I liked seeing him struggle to control his powers, but again with teenage-hood, wouldn‘t it make sense for his powers to be tied to his emotions? At least at 1st.

3.5/5💚s

So this book in the DC Icons series was not as great as Wonder Woman: Warbringer. That said, it was still an enjoyable read. It was more feelings and internal conflict rather than action. You really got to see Clark‘s heart. Love that. I also loved that it focuses on minders issues and struggles related to immigration, humanity, equality, & acceptance of both self and others. 💚

Fun take on Clark Kent‘s High School year‘s. I especially like the contemporary take and how the author sees Superman as a refugee. #audiobook

This was great fun. I needed something hopeful after my last read. My first Matt de la Pena. (Sorry, I am unable to add the tilde). Looking forward to reading more by this author and more titles in the DC Icon series. I am a fan of Superman in all of his iterations.

I have liked some of these ya versions of dc characters (Wonder Woman War bringer was awesome). But this book felt repetitive to me. I used to watch Smallville so I felt like I knew young Clark already and I already watched him discover his powers.

This has bugged me for the longest time...how does he hide the cape under his clothes, not even thinking about his boots? And the same goes for Supergirl? How does she hide her oh so red high-heel boots? How do the look so respectable and not all lumpy and bumpy? 😳😳😳

Soubhiville Lol, I never thought of that, but good question! 5y

Another solid entry in this series. It may not be my favorite (I am a big fan of Leigh Bardugo so of course Wonder Woman: Warbringer sits at the top)but it is definitely tied for 2nd.

Shley9225 Leigh Bardugo is a Queen 🖤 5y
jackilynn @Shley9225 yes she is!! I will read anything by her. 5y
Shley9225 @jackilynn 100%. Are you excited for Ninth House this fall? 5y
jackilynn @Shley9225 I am super excited! I am in charge of ordering adult sci-fi & fantasy at my library so I am very tempted to get it for them. I will most likely just buy it for myself though lol 5y

#BookMail Pt1 Kicking off this weeks(well, almost 2weeks)mail with the Waterstones edition of Superman Dawnbreaker, one Of the DC Icons series. I have them all in these editions, I much prefer them to the other covers. Unlike the other authors, I don‘t think I‘ve read anything by this one before. I hope he does as good a job with Superman as Leigh Bardugo did with Wonderwoman, or Sarah J Maas with Catwoman.🤞🦸🏻‍♂️

Decent, but ultimately forgettable. Young Clark Kent tries to get his powers under control while learning about his past and trying to fight a conspiracy. A pretty basic Superman story. Lacking Batman's detective skills, he punches and fumbles his way to the conclusion.

And finally, they recently released the cover in the 4th DC icons book. I wonder if it will get the final book, or if we will see an Aquaman title.

TheRomantiCate 🤞🤞🤞🤞 for Aquaman !!! 6y
amb I co-sign the vote for Aquaman and also add The Flash 6y
LibrarianRyan @amb this series has been selling well so the possibility does exist. It could also be fun to have a Joker book or Harleigh Quinn. 6y
amb @LibrarianRyan I would be in line for that one, or those. DC universe has been underserved 6y
LibrarianRyan @amb that‘s because their movies have mostly been sub par. A few stand out but not many. 6y
