The Con Artist: A Murder Mystery | Fred Van Lente
10 posts | 7 read | 5 to read
This illustrated mystery will appeal to comic book fans and anyone who appreciates an unconventional whodunit. Comic book artist Mike Mason arrives at San Diego Comic-Con, seeking sanctuary with other fans and creators—and maybe to reunite with his ex—but when his rival is found murdered, he becomes the prime suspect. To clear his name, Mike will have to navigate every corner of the con, from zombie obstacle courses and cosplay flash mobs to intrusive fans and obsessive collectors, in the process unraveling a dark secret behind one of the industry’s most legendary creators.

This was such a fun mystery to work through. Having it set at SDCC was such a brilliant idea and made me miss going so much. It was a well built mystery that did a good job of keeping me guessing till the end. So many balls in the air story wise and it was great to see where they ended up at the end. #lmpbc @bookandcat @Schlinkles

TsundokuAleax @bookandcat @Schlinkles I should be mailing my book out shortly and already have a few ideas for the next book. 5y
Schlinkles @bookandcat and @TsundokuAleax Me too, I‘ll post some choices for you guys in a bit! 5y

This was one of the books I nearly bought. It looked like a lot of fun - but it was over my budget. I‘ll be checking to see if the library has it...

Just finished The Con Artist, my pick for the next round of #LMPBC @TsundokuAleax @Schlinkles

It is about a comic book artist who has to solve a murder he's blamed for at San Diego Comic-Con. They include his sketches too. It's very geeky and funny, a good summer read. My friends here couldn't attend ComicCon so this the closest they could get.😂

I will be mailing this off with the other book (I Was Anastasia). #sdcc #comiccon #murdermystery

Schlinkles Psyched to read this one! 6y
TsundokuAleax I am so excited about this! Also, we are suppose to mail for next month, right? I have been a bit scattered and am now thinking I might be forgetting something. 6y
Schlinkles @TsundokuAleax I think we agreed on mailing out at the end of August 6y
bookandcat @Schlinkles @TsundokuAleax yes mailing for end of August, I just happened to finish Anastasia late and Con artist early (was reading it at the beach lol). 6y
TsundokuAleax @Schlinkles @bookandcat thanks ladies. Just want to make sure. 6y

"I do not know a single thing outside my knowledge." Lol. I'm really enjoying this one. Reading outside on the deck is pretty awesome too.

It struggles as metafiction and as a mystery, but, if you resolve not to take it too seriously, this is a wonderful, easter egg-riddled romp through comicdom, a book sure to please fans of Ready Player One.
