This is my son's birthday cake. That my son asked me to bake for him. That he refused to even look at today. Because he refused to celebrate his birthday today. And refused to eat at all today. Because some times adoption is hard. 😭😭😭😭😭

IamIamIam I was thinking about you guys again the other day. I wasn't legally allowed to be adopted by my stepfather but he's more of a parent to me than my estranged biological father ever was. You've done an incredible thing but sometimes it takes a while for the hurt to become manageable. Genetics may leave the blueprint but the heart becomes the architect. ❤ I'm glad he came around! 🤗🤗🤗🤗 4y

tournevis @IamIamIam Thank you for your kind words. Adoption may be official or not, it can be easy, or not. Trauma, though, is always the most difficult to navigate. My son is still deeply traumatized, and growing up means that he understands more things at every stage of his development. In some ways, he is re-traumatized at every new stage. We are with him always and give him all the love he lets us give him, and we don't give up. 4y

IamIamIam I totally get it. My biological father passed away in a tragic car accident a few years ago and it was like stitches had been ripped out and I had all this old drama to deal with, things I had buried so long ago and hadn't thought about for years. The emotional explosions are sudden and unexpected. My heart goes out to you all! ❤ 4y

So this was kind of a crummy day. My husband is away for another two days and I just spoke with my department head. We decided to cancel all my teaching for the Fall semester and reassign all my grad students. I will be going from sick leave to long term medical leave in June. I feel useless and discouraged. Thankfully, my son is adorable and super loving (though he usually isn't much, since I'm just his mom, you know?).

Itchyfeetreader So try you have had a bad day, and pleased you have this little cutie for company. I don‘t know your circumstances but I also find myself on an unplanned period of leave from work. Not going to lie I found it tough at first as work has been such a huge part of my life for so long but have now settled into a routine and am now finding joy and purpose in lots of things I have never had time for before. Hoping you find those things for you xx 6y

When I “retired” as a partner in my law firm at 33 for health reasons, my whole concept of who I was was wrapped up in being an attorney. We are SO much more than our work, even if we‘ve spent years training for it. To your son, you are the world. And not working means you‘ll be home to witness the magic ordinary moments of his childhood—a true gift for you both!🌸💕💕🌸 6y
