Commuters
Commuters: A Novel | Emily Gray Tedrowe
3 posts | 1 read
"Tedrowe explores the reconfigurations of a family and the strange alliances that can occur between young and old, love and work. And she writes brilliantly about money. A deeply satisfying debut." Margot Livesey, author of The House on Fortune Street A poignant meditation on desire, heartrending loss, and dreams deferred. Robin Antalek, author of The Summer We Fell Apart Emily Tedrowes exceptional debut novel depicts the shockwaves set in motion by the sudden marriage of one middle-class familys 78-year-old matriarch to a wealthy outsider. Commuters is that rare novel that offers something for almost everyone: foodies interested in exploring the rich tapestry of the New York City restaurant scene; the millions who have been profoundly affected by the current financial and mortgage crisis; or anyone simply looking for a beautifully drawn family drama in the vein of the works of Katrina Kittle (The Blessings of the Animals, Two Truths and a Lie) and Jennifer Haigh (The Condition, Baker Towers, Mrs. Kimble).

Pickpick

Almost forgot to review this one. It had its weak spots but overall a lovely read. I think the money angle really annoyed some readers, but hey, we're struggling financially, I've never been comfortably off in my whole life, so I really related to that I guess 😊 Others also complained that some plot lines were left hanging, and once again maybe I'm weird but I like books where not everything is resolved. 3.5 stars I'd say.

1. @BarbaraJean told me about it ?
2. Yes, through Goodreads. I'm sad that I lost my old spreadsheets when various laptops died, though
3. Litsy has definitely "made me" buy a lot of discounted books on Kindle! Buying new print books is still a luxury and even secondhand I can't buy too often, have gotten a few good #blameitonlitsy buys
4. Busy with Commuters when I'm getting my little one to sleep. Then I need to work ?
