Here We Are
Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth | Oliver Jeffers
18 posts | 22 read | 20 to read
#1 TIME Best Book of the Year for 2017! "Moments of human intimacy jostle with scenes that inspire cosmic awe, and the broad diversity of Jeffers's candy-colored humans...underscores the twin messages that 'You're never alone on Earth' and that we're all in this together."--Publisher's Weekly (starred review) Oliver Jeffers, arguably the most influential creator of picture books today, offers a rare personal look inside his own hopes and wishes for his child--and in doing so gifts children and parents everywhere with a gently sweet and humorous missive about our world and those who call it home. Insightfully sweet, with a gentle humor and poignancy, here is Oliver Jeffers' user's guide to life on Earth. He created it specially for his son, yet with a universality that embraces all children and their parents. Be it a complex view of our planet's terrain (bumpy, sharp, wet), a deep look at our place in space (it’s big), or a guide to all of humanity (don’t be fooled, we are all people), Oliver's signature wit and humor combine with a value system of kindness and tolerance to create a must-have book for parents. Praise for Here We Are: -"A sweet and tender distillation of what every Earthling needs to know and might well spend a lifetime striving to achieve. A must-purchase for new parent shelves"--School Library Journal

Here We Are is a RF picture book written and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. This book is written for a child so they can have basic notes for living on Earth. This book would be a great AS due to the fact the the author also illustrates his own books. He was also a Kohl's Cares author and has written more than 14 books.

Beautiful Illustrations. Beautiful message about caring for our one and only, unique and diverse home. I‘ve already gifted several copies of this book to a few nieces and nephews - including one I bought for myself that I ended up giving away as a gift. It‘s one of my favorite picture books and have already bought another copy (until I gift that one too).

Wow! Just wow! I simply L💙VED this #Picturebook. From the dedication, to the illustrations and tiny details, to the story itself... I found that it was pure perfection. Please read this one to your little ones if you haven‘t already. There‘s so many great conversation starters and learning bits and bobs. ⭐️

Love this. It is a mix of science and philosophy and art, all in a book written to welcome a new baby to Earth. Oliver Jeffers is amazing.

It‘s World Water Week! 💦 my son loves this book, the illustrations are bright and happy, all about Mother Earth. Even though he doesn‘t really understand it yet, I‘m trying to raise a little human that gives a sh*t about the planet. Bonus, you can buy temp tattoos of the animal illustrations from this book at Tattly. 🐙

Favourites in May: Circe (fresh retelling from Greek mythology); Less (a funny novel about gay marriage); Louis Undercover (a tender graphic novel about children with an alcoholic father); and Here We Are (a picture book guide to being a good citizen on planet Earth).

Be kind. Be patient. Ask questions. These are some of the messages of advice embedded in this #picturebook by Oliver Jeffers, created to introduce his newborn son to our physical and social world. It‘s whimsical and warm and full of wonder. A treat for all ages. 🌏❤️

#HopIntoSpring Day 22: This is a beautiful tribute to #PlanetEarth created by the unparalleled Oliver Jeffers to his son. More than just the simple useful notes that will help Oliver‘s son navigate his way around this planet, it is also meant to convey that as overwhelmed as he may sometimes feel in this big wide world – he is never alone. I absolutely love this book! It is great for a science lesson that you want to squeeze good books into! It contains so much useful information while staying fun and engaging for students. This book takes you throughout our Earth, the even the space surrounding it. Use this book to teach about the world and the people around our students in a cute and creative way! (It's also my favorite that i've posted about so far!!) #UCFLAE3414

sboynt This would be a great story to perform CR with a student or even SR, GR, RA, or IR. I found a great online teacher resource with different activities related to the book at www.harperreach.com/resources/teacher-resources-oliver-jeffers/ which can go along really well with a CR. 1y
sboynt UDL 3.1 to activate prior knowledge is very important for success with this text along with ESOL 5 of teaching technical vocabulary supporting key concepts.
