Mrs.
Mrs.: A Novel | Caitlin Macy
"Mrs. could be the next Big Little Lies."--Entertainment Weekly "Brilliant.... I absolutely loved it."--Kate Atkinson In the well-heeled milieu of New York's Upper East Side, coolly elegant Philippa Lye is the woman no one can stop talking about. Despite a shadowy past, Philippa has somehow married the scion of the last family-held investment bank in the city. And although her wealth and connections put her in the center of this world, she refuses to conform to its gossip-fueled culture. Then, into her precariously balanced life, come two women: Gwen Hogan, a childhood acquaintance who uncovers an explosive secret about Philippa's single days, and Minnie Curtis, a newcomer whose vast fortune and frank revelations about a penurious upbringing in Spanish Harlem put everyone on alert. When Gwen's husband, a heavy-drinking, obsessive prosecutor in the US Attorney's Office, stumbles over the connection between Philippa's past and the criminal investigation he is pursuing at all costs, this insulated society is forced to confront the rot at its core and the price it has paid to survive into the new millennium. Macy has written a modern-day HOUSE OF MIRTH, not for the age of railroads and steel but of hedge funds and overnight fortunes, of scorched-earth successes and abiding moral failures. A brilliant portrait of love, betrayal, fate and chance, MRS marries razor-sharp social critique and page-turning propulsion into an unforgettable tapestry of the way we live in the 21st Century.

An espresso martini and a good societal drama - Yes, please! One thing I have learned over the past few years is that going to a bar or restaurant by myself to read is absolutely freeing. Coffee shops are a little different...most people go to coffee shops to read.

This is a story that develops slowly, allowing you to get to know the characters along the way, most of whom are dreadful and all of whom are flawed. It follows several families in very high society NYC with the eventual very real downfall of a couple of them amidst the superficiality and gossip. This book hasn‘t fared well here or on goodreads, but I really enjoyed it.

This is the story of a group of women in NYC - wealthy moms who plan playdates with the other kids at this rich nursery school. The husbands are entangled in ways you don‘t expect. There are a lot of so-so reviews but I enjoyed it. It‘s slow but I liked the payoff.

I feel fairly ambivalent about this one. The plot was intriguing-ish and the characters, I felt, were developed and believable, albeit completely unstable. I just wouldn‘t run out and recommend it to anyone I know. It‘s not the next “Big Little Lies” like the back cover tried to suggest it was.

It‘s 730am. We‘ve been at the salon for an hour already, and awake since 5am. Coffee is definitely necessary, but even tough I‘m sleepy, I am so freaking excited. It‘s raining, but beautiful for photos. I can‘t believe the day is finally here! ♥️👰🏻

I saw a blurb in a magazine that this was on a must-read list for summer reading. I gave up on page 263. I hoped for more New York City scenes. It served up far-fetched characters- especially female- that were not believable nor interesting.

I borrowed Mrs. in audiobook form. I stopped and restarted it umpteen times. My mind kept wandering so I think it deserves the rating it has received here! It‘s a pass for me!

Well it‘s not the easy breezy read I was expecting! Also, it‘s a slower pace. But plod through! I liked it. I don‘t really know why I liked it? But, I liked it. It‘s not a beach read, chick lit book. I think I liked it because everyone was different? They weren‘t all rich white people who were almost exactly the same like Swans of Fifth Ave; I think that‘s why I liked this?

😤 Is it possible that I just read too many awesome books in a row and now everything sucks in comparison? I should have checked the Litsy reviews on this one before I dove in. 2 books chosen for their covers/2 bails.
The last one had too much happening, this one I was wondering why I was reading it at all because nothing was happening.
😔
I think there is a lesson here I should have learned long ago. Don‘t judge a book by its cover.

New York's Upper East Side isn't the glitz & glamour you'd expect. With everyone competing to be better than their peers, there's one person who stands out; Phillippa. Elegantly chic & married to the scion of the last family held investment in the city, Phillippa is the girl everyone can't stop talking about... but there's something below the surface that nobody expects.

I really wanted to like this story - but I just couldn't get into it 🤦🏼‍♀️
