As a wife and mother of three, Lady Kilmichael felt her task in the home was finished. As the artist Grace Stanway, she was well-known and successful in her own right. The question now was whether her home or her career would predominate.

Excited for #Round17 #LMPBC #GroupS

Let me know what sounds good to you @Jerdencon @julieclair @Reggie

I did not know Agatha Christie had written under a pseudonym so that‘s interesting.

See All 8 Comments
Jerdencon They all sound good - but Agatha Christie and the last garden in Eden would be my top 2 picks 14mo
Reggie I‘m good with any of them. I‘ve never read Agatha Christie before so that would be cool. But really, any book would be good. 14mo
julieclair These all sound good. The Last Garden in England has been on my TBR for awhile, so that would be my first choice, but I‘m fine with any of them. 14mo
Deblovestoread I‘m going with The Last Garden in England. For someone who hasn‘t read Christie before you should probably start with her mysteries instead. Looking forward to this round! @Jerdencon @Reggie @julieclair @suvata 14mo
julieclair Yay! 14mo

Pickpick

Set in the 1930s in what is now #croatia, this novel follows Grace as she escapes from her husband, who may be having an affair and her bullying grown up children.

I struggled at first as the blurb says it is ‘farcically funny and full of wisdom‘ and I just didn‘t see the funny side, and some of the ‘wisdom‘ was a bit boring.

However the last quarter of the book was amusing and sweet and, yes, full of wisdom so it‘s a pick!

Thanks for the tag @gradcat 😘

‘Lady Kilmichael took her seat in the boat train at Victoria hurriedly, opened The Times, and hid behind it‘

The tagged book is for #croatia for #readingeurope2020. I‘m liking it so far, but it‘s not filling me with joy or completely captivating me and that‘s what I think I (we all) need from a book at the moment....

LoverOfLearning "The human head is of the same size and weight as a roaster chicken". - Stiff: the curious lives of human cadavers. ?? 4y
gradcat Very nice! Yes, we need a book that compels you to turn the page so quickly that you almost rip it out...in other words, we need awesome escapes!! ♥️♥️♥️ 4y
squirrelbrain Let me know if you find one Minette! @gradcat 4y

Today‘s #libraryhaul...

From top to bottom, for #readingeurope2020:

#croatia
#cyprus
#czechia
#portugal (obvs!)

And the last one is just a #blameitonlitsy (and @Birdsong28 and @Librarybelle !)

I‘m a bit worried about the Othello as I‘ve only read one Shakespeare play and that was for GCSE English. However, it‘s an edition that explains the big words and difficult bits to beginners like me, so we shall see how I get on! 🤞

BarbaraBB Smart choice for Cyprus. Maybe it is time for a reread since high school 😊 4y
MicheleinPhilly The Five was fascinating! 4y
Hooked_on_books Man, you‘re just killing this challenge! 4y

suzie.reads I have picked Othello for Cyprus too 😊 4y
squirrelbrain Have you read much Shakespeare @suzie.reads? I‘m worried I might hate it! 4y
squirrelbrain @Hooked_on_books - I think I‘ve done almost a third of it..... 4y
suzie.reads @squirrelbrain I have read afew but I'm not a massive fan. Loved Midsummer Night's Dream though 4y
squirrelbrain That‘s the one I did for GCSE English @suzie.reads - really liked it but that was a looooong time ago! 4y
Birdsong28 Yay!!!!!! Check out the inside of the cover! (if you can) if not I have tagged you in my post about the cover anyway 4y
squirrelbrain Mine‘s stuck down @Birdsong28, with it being a library book. It looks fab though! 4y
Librarybelle Enjoy! 4y
Caroline2 Ohhhhh I‘m dying to read The Five!! Can‘t wait to hear what you think of it. 👍 4y
