House of Chains
House of Chains: Book Four of The Malazan Book of the Fallen | Steven Erikson
11 posts | 26 read | 3 reading | 9 to read
In Northern Genabackis, a raiding party of savage tribal warriors descends from the mountains into the southern flatlands. Their intention is to wreak havoc amongst the despised lowlanders, but for the one named Karsa Orlong it marks the beginning of what will prove to be an extraordinary destiny. Some years later, it is the aftermath of the Chain of Dogs. Tavore, the Adjunct to the Empress, has arrived in the last remaining Malazan stronghold of Seven Cities. New to command, she must hone twelve thousand soldiers, mostly raw recruits but for a handful of veterans of Coltaine's legendary march, into a force capable of challenging the massed hordes of Sha'ik's Whirlwind who lie in wait in the heart of the Holy Desert. But waiting is never easy. The seer's warlords are locked into a power struggle that threatens the very soul of the rebellion, while Sha'ik herself suffers, haunted by the knowledge of her nemesis: her own sister, Tavore. And so begins this awesome new chapter in Steven Erikson's acclaimed Malazan Book of the Fallen . . .

I finally finished this chunkster, the 4th book in the 10-volume Malazan Book of the Fallen series. The farther along I get in this series, the more I appreciate Erikson's brilliant writing and complex worldbuilding.

Ok so between last night and today I‘m on pg. 327 there‘s 1037 pages 😳📖😝 so I‘m 191 pg. away from half way through this book on the first day technically 🤯 connection with connection are still occurring and I‘m loving it keeping my mind distracted 📖

jfalkens How is the series going? I picked up the first 8 Last week at a book sale. 6y
Ddzmini Really great the books don‘t end they continue throughout the series you think a character ends but then he/she pops up in another book or he/she was in a previous book as a cameo you have to really pay attention to the characters that are presented I love it 6y

As a student of philosophy, especially that of epistemology and morals/ethics, I am learning to really appreciate Erikson's style of story development and dialogues. This book is rife with so many philosophical implications. I cannot begin to count how many times I had to out the book down and think about the deeper meanings. A++

1000 pages later my paperback is as torn and battered as expected. It was a great companion during my trip to the #Litsymeetup in Cologne!

The story was great, too. Erikson manages to describe two big opposing armies, as well as small characters and their interactions among the soldiers. There is no real good or evil in his books and one feels with all characters!

scripturient So did you manage to finish it on the train? I remember that was your ambition. 😊 7y
DuckOfDoom @scripturient I had 90 pages left, which I read this morning. 😄 but I already started one of the new books 😊 7y

When your paperback has too many pages. The spine already seems strained and I had to add a bookmark. Don't know how it will look when I am at page 1030 😂

MrBook Wow!!! 😳 7y
