The House on Foster Hill
The House on Foster Hill | Jaime Jo Wright
Outstanding Debut Novel from an Author to Watch Kaine Prescott is no stranger to death. When her husband died two years ago, her pleas for further investigation into his suspicious death fell on deaf ears. In desperate need of a fresh start, Kaine purchases an old house sight unseen in her grandfather's Wisconsin hometown. But one look at the eerie, abandoned house immediately leaves her questioning her rash decision. And when the house's dark history comes back with a vengeance, Kaine is forced to face the terrifying realization she has nowhere left to hide. A century earlier, the house on Foster Hill holds nothing but painful memories for Ivy Thorpe. When an unidentified woman is found dead on the property, Ivy is compelled to discover her identity. Ivy's search leads her into dangerous waters and, even as she works together with a man from her past, can she unravel the mystery before any other lives-- including her own--are lost?

Mehso-so

I enjoyed the story, but I did find my mind wandering a bit. It might have to do with the narrator, but maybe it is the writing style. It was a decent story, so I will probably check out more from this author.

Panpan

I was so excited for this book but it simply did not pan out. It was much more focused on relationships than the story and I frequently found my mind wandering.
Set in two different times in Wisconsin, the story flows back and forth between then and now with two strong female characters as leads who are figuring out their own mysteries. It really sounded so wonderful but just not my cup of tea.

Help! This audio book is killing me! I need a better one but I'm horrible at picking anything.
Anyone have any suggestions for a mystery or horror that is read really well?

IndoorDame She falls on the ghost stories end of mystery/horror, but if that appeals I almost always choose to listen to Simone St. James books on audio 1y
Buchbeeg I love ghost stories! I'll try that next! 1y
Buchbeeg This one might be better if I were reading it but listening to it isn't working. It just moves so slow 1y

Buchbeeg @Susanita adding to my list now! I love when there are various narrators. 1y
Buchbeeg @Susanita Ah man, it's not on my audio book apps :( 1y
Susanita Bummer! I‘d also suggest anything by Deborah Crombie. They‘re interesting stories, and the narrator is good. If you like classic mysteries this one is compelling and fairly short: 1y
Buchbeeg @Susanita Perfect! Lots of options for her on my Libby app!!! 1y

"She didn't want her weakness to lead to temptation." This quote is a great example of why I enjoy reading Christian Fiction ~ it reminds me of Biblical truth. Enjoying a ☕️ date with my husband while the boys are at youth group.

I'm reading The Bound Heart by Laura Frantz on Kindle but it is way too hot outside to bring my iPad. I've had this book on my shelf for about a month. I'm so glad I picked it up in the used section. It is mysterious!

jenreads7 Good to know! I‘ve looked at starting this one several times. I need to bump it up my list! (edited) 5y

Debut author. Will read future books of hers. The start was a little confusing but quickly became clear. Enjoyed the mystery and sex trafficking/abuse background theme.

Have you ever been jamming out to a new song and then about halfway through realize that it‘s by a Christian rock band and your like- hmm, that was... unexpected?! That‘s the experience I‘m having with this book. I‘m not necessarily mad about it but I do feel a little... duped? The mysterious storyline has me hanging on for now, so I‘ll give it a fair shot! 🤔

darklydreaming Haha that's a good way to put it! 6y

I passed over The House on Foster Hill three times before being convinced I had to read it! How was Jaime Jo Wright going to work God into this kind of story?

I doubted my choice upon reading the opening line and at the house description I just about put the book down. The writing is compelling though, snuggled under my duvet, I flipped the electronic pages swiftly! The twists are surprising but well-thought out , loved it!

I really enjoyed this! It's a first full-length novel from this author, and I must say I was impressed. It's part historical AND contemporary mystery with some romance. A slight complaint is in its length (I think it could have been tightened up a little more). It was well-written, with some twists and turns, as well as including some wonderfully strong, courageous women tackling some horrific plights. 5/🌟 Thanks #NetGalley! #romantsy #osrbc

Next up, another ARC (thanks to #NetGalley!), due out in December. A Christian fiction murder mystery debut novel that toggles back and forth between the early 1900s and present day. Spooky cover! 😳 I'm 13% in and enjoying it so far! Stay tuned....

Amie I love the cover! Looks interesting. 7y
