Minority Report and Other Classic Stories | Philip K Dick
8 posts | 23 read | 30 to read
With an Introduction by James Tiptree, Jr. "More than anyone else in the field, Mr. Dick really puts you inside people's minds." --"Wall Street Journal" Many thousands of readers consider Philip K. Dick to have been the greatest science fiction writer on any planet. Since his untimely death in 1982, interest in Dick's works has continued to mount and his reputation has been enhanced by a growing body of critical attention. The Philip K. Dick Award is now presented annually to a distinguished work of science fiction, and the Philip K. Dick Society is devoted to the study and promulgation of his works. This collection includes all of the writer's earliest short and medium-length fiction covering the years 1954-1964, and featuring such fascinating tales as "The Minority Report "(the inspiration for Steven Spielberg's film), "Service Call, Stand-By, The Days of Perky Pat," and many others. Here, readers will find Dick's initial explorations of the themes he so brilliantly brought to life in his later work. Dick won the prestigious Hugo Award for the best novel of 1963 for "The Man in the High Castle." In the last year of his life, the film Blade Runner was made from his novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" The classic stories of Philip K. Dick offer an intriguing glimpse into the imagination of one of science fiction's most enduring and respected names. "A useful acquisition for any serious SF library or collection." --"Kirkus Reviews" "Awe-inspiring." --"The Washington Post"

Not a great photo, but we're enjoying a movie night with the 2002 movie adaptation of P.K. Dick's classic story. It's been ages since I watched this one. All of the actors are so young!

🎧 Minority Report, Total Recall, Paycheck, Screamers & The Eyes Have It.

OMG I loved these short stories! Now I reallly want to pull out my DVDs of Minority Report & Total Recall ... movies & tv shows.

Oh how I love me some old cheesy sci-fi & I have a lot of it! 😁

These are short stories so the movies & TV show expand on them liberally.

The Eyes Have It is funny & only 7 minutes long.

Boy this brings back memories! Movie time!

Famous for the movie, I also wanted to get to know the original. And I loved it. And all the other stories collected here. Of course I did 😅
I love reading sci-fi classics, they're interesting to analyze. How did the authors back then image the future? What traces of their time are left in the stories? You actually find quite a lot of those if you pay attention.

Cathythoughts I loved Steppenwolf & Exit West ❤️. Must look into the others ✨ 6y
Lcsmcat An Ideal Husband is hilarious! But Jonathan Livingston Seagull should be on this list- it‘s shorter than many of these. (edited) 6y
Lcsmcat I tend to do my short reads at the end of the year and start January with weightier tomes. 6y
Cupofjo Thanks for the tag! Exit West is on my tbr list!! 6y

Well... Tom Cruise is in the movie, and he‘s a Scientologist... That‘s all I could come up with for this one. 😂

GondorGirl I love that connection! 6y

It's because of @CherylDeFranceschi that I took this quiz: https://www.buzzfeed.com/keelyflaherty/what-dystopian-movie-universe-do-you-belo...

It's quite fitting. I think I've discussed this one more often than any other dystopian fiction I've encountered - not counting the books I wrote my thesis about.

BookNerdBritt I got The Matrix, haha. 7y
julesG @BookNerdBritt That's what I was aiming for. 7y
