Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire
Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire | Neil Gaiman
19 posts | 11 read | 31 to read
Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire, a satirical tale from the mind of Sunday Times bestselling writer Neil Gaiman, has been strikingly adapted for the first time by illustrator and comic book artist Shane Oakley. For fans of Alan Moore, Dave McKean and Sandman... SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT, A RAVEN CAWS, AN AUTHOR'S PEN SCRATCHES AND THUNDER CLAPS. The author wants to write serious non-fiction: stories about frail women in white nightgowns, mysterious bumps in the night and the undead rising to collect old debts. But he keeps getting interrupted by the everyday annoyances of talking ravens, duels to the death and his sinister butler.

This isn‘t what I was searching for on Libby, but boy did I laugh when I read the title. And yes of course I tagged it to read at a later date. How can I resist a title this ridiculous? 📚😆

Aimeesue That. Is. Awesome. 😂😂😂 10mo
AmyG Ha…quite the mouthful. 10mo
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards 😂 This feels like the title version of the Bulwer-Lytton contest! 10mo

This was a great read and the graphics are incredible. Never read many graphic novels but am starting to get into them. If you've got any good recommendations I'd love to know. 💖

elizabethlk I think the best places to start are Saga Vol 1 and The Complete Persepolis. There are so many amazing graphic novels out there though. 6y
kezzlou85 @elizabethlk okay will look them up, thank you. X 6y
gibblr Sooo many good ones. I second Saga! There's also The Wicked & The Divine, Monstress, Rat Queens, Paper Girls, The Graveyard Book...like I said, so many! 6y

#AllTheBooksOf2017 #ShortestBookYouRead Coming in at 48 pages, this is the shortest book I read this year. It put a smile on my face but ultimately it didn't stay in my permanent collection. 💜🦇

kezzlou85 Ooh I've just got this out from the library. 6y
RealBooks4ever @kezzlou85 It's quite the send-up of scary tropes and worth at least one read! 😃 6y
kezzlou85 Oh cool. Hoping to start it in the next couple of days. 6y

Indie bookstore #bookhaul while the kids are at camp! I've been meaning to read The Round House and Geek Love for ages. You can never go wrong with a Gaiman. And the new issue of KnitSimple has a great pattern for an easily knitted afghan - which is perfect since my attempts to teach myself crochet have been less than stellar. 😆❤️🦇

MayJasper Good luck with the knitting 7y

Comic books are such a classic source of #onomatopoeia, this one is a adaptation of a Neil Gaiman short story. The art style is wonderful and the story itself is a wonderful tribute to gothic literature, complete with zombies, sword fights, and talking ravens ❤ #jubilantjuly

DeborahSmall Now I need to immediately search for this on Amazon. Although I've just spent 645 on books. You're killing me ????? 7y
DeborahSmall And bought!! Also got The Graveyard Book in hardback today. Waiting on the hardback of Coralline. Sam is happy to take all my paperback Gaiman. Although when he gets in to uni I will buy him the folio of American Gods as it's just a fucking masterpiece 😍 7y
vivastory @DeborahSmall I agree. It's pretty amazing. There are tons of great editions but that is easily the best! I still need to read The Graveyard Book. 7y
DeborahSmall @vivastory it's great, I love Stardust too. He's fantastic 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk It is an adaptation of one of the short stories in... Fragile Things... maybe? There is a whole line of graphic adaptations of his short stories. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @vivastory It's in my "Books about Neil Gaiman" section just above my "Books by Neil Gaiman shelf. 7y
vivastory @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Your Gaiman game is strong! 7y

This is one of Sir BF's Valentine's gift!! Gaiman is one of his all-time fav authors, & he's obsessed w/comics, so I splurged on le book. I'm hoping he'll be very excited. It's a gothic, satirical novel about an author who just wants to write non-fiction. But talking ravens, duels to the death, & his sinister butler keep interrupting him. The artwork is GORGEOUS!! Comic nerds: check it out!!
