Mehso-so

Guys! I did it! I finished before the due date. The last 80 pages were just notes, bibliography, etc. If I hadn't been so interested in the topic (i.e. Prince Philip) I would have bailed less than 100 pages into the book. I found Mr Eade's style to be far too dry and textbook, and the early chapters were as confusing and dull as the "begats" in the Bible. I recommend watching "The Crown" on Netflix instead of reading this.

DGRachel Counts for #LitsyAtoZ letter E and Modern Mrs Darcy challenge, and is the fifth book I've read this year. @BookishMarginalia 7y
danimgill Ooh The Crown was so good! I'm on the prowl for books about Phillip and Elizabeth now myself. Congrats on book #5 for the year! 7y
BookishMarginalia 👍🏼👏🏼 7y
DGRachel @danimgill Thanks! 7y

Dilemma: this is due back on Wed. I'm only 1/2 way done and will not finish in time. The writing is dry and tedious. I don't want to buy the book, but I am not ready to quit and DNF. I find the subject matter intriguing, even though the presentation leaves much to be desired. Do I trudge along & pay the overdue fine in a week (or two) or do I record my page #, take it back, and put a hold request for when the next person is done?

CocoReads I'd note the page number and put my name back on the hold list 7y
Melkyl Page # and request the hold 😊 7y

DGRachel @CocoReads @Bookzombie @Melwilk That's where I was leaning. 😊 Maybe I just need a break and coming back to it in a few weeks will make it easier to finish? 7y
CocoReads Always possible. It doesn't sound like it's worth the overdue fine. 7y
DGRachel @CocoReads There is that, too. 😂 7y
BookishMarginalia I'd be interested in this book because of The Crown series on Netflix (fabulous, by the way!) 7y
DGRachel @BookishMarginalia That's exactly why I checked it out! I love The Crown!! 7y
merelybookish Skim for the good parts? 7y
wonga i'm lazy so i usually just power through! overdue books at my library are just $.10 a day so I rarely owe over a dollar anyway 😬 7y
KellyK I typically finish up and pay the fine... much cheaper than buying the book. 7y
EllieDottie I would probably do the second option. Take a break for a while... 7y
LauraBeth I always just finish and pay the fine 😀 7y
Megabooks Second option, imo 7y

In order to read everything I need/want to by the 30th (library/book club deadlines), I calculated that I have to read 159 pages per day. My first thought was, that's not too bad. Then I realized that at the speed I read, that's at least 3 hours per day, including workdays. I may have bitten off more than I can chew, especially since it is taking me forever to get through this one. #booknerdproblems #blameitonLitsy

BeththeBookDragon #booknerdproblems Me too! Do it all the time! 7y
Reviewsbylola Some days I can easily read that amount, but there are other days where 10 pages is a struggle. Good luck! 7y
DGRachel @BeththeBookDragon It's comforting to know I'm not alone. 😁 @Reviewsbylola Same here. Yesterday I might have read 20 pages. I should be done with this book according to the plan, but I'm not even 1/2 finished. 😳 7y

Getting ready to dive into this. #titlewithapropername today. Just realized it also has a #bookface. 😉#readJanuary

[DELETED] 2111265813 Have you watched The Crown on Netflix? 7y
DGRachel @SecondRunReviews Yes, I've watched the series twice now. So good! 7y
[DELETED] 2111265813 @DGRachel, agreed. Looking forward to Victoria on PBS. 7y

Today's #libraryhaul. Two for 2017 challenges and one just because (actually #blameitonNetflix #theCrown)

Laura317 @DGRachel I've been watching The Crown, too. Matt Smith does a great job playing Prince Philip. I'll be interested to see how you like the book. 7y
LauraBrook I got the Prince Philip book as an ARC and really enjoyed it! Hope you do too!! 7y
DGRachel @Laura317 I thought Matt did a great job and I can't wait for the second season. @LauraBrook Thanks for the vote of confidence. That makes picking my next book off the TBR a bit more difficult. 😳😂 7y
