Setagaya ward, Tokyo Inspector Kosuke Iwata, newly transferred to Tokyo's homicide department, is assigned a new partner and a secondhand case. Blunt, hard as nails and shunned by her colleagues, Assistant Inspector Noriko Sakai is a partner Iwata decides it would be unwise to cross. A case that's complicated - a family of four murdered in their own home by a killer who then ate ice cream, surfed the web and painted a hideous black sun on the bedroom ceiling before he left in broad daylight. A case that so haunted the original investigator that he threw himself off the city's famous Rainbow Bridge. Carrying his own secret torment, Iwata is no stranger to pain. He senses the trauma behind the killer's brutal actions. Yet his progress is thwarted in the unlikeliest of places. Fearing corruption among his fellow officers, tracking a killer he's sure is only just beginning and trying to put his own shattered life back together, Iwata knows time is running out before he's taken off the case or there are more killings . . . Blue Light Yokohama is crime fiction at its very best - gripping, haunting, atmospheric and utterly captivating.

I had some quibbles (some bits on Tokyo cliches) but Obregón has made tremendous first effort to capture the city. His passion shows in creating a serial killer thriller based on a true unsolved crime. And he‘s got the politics down, angst ridden inspector and new partner dynamics too. Now I can‘t get the song (book title) out of my head!

An atmospheric thriller that is haunting and unsettling. There is a sinister feeling throughout the read as Tokyo presents itself as a city full of paradox. Kosuke Iwata is a troubled police detective running from a past and is partnered with Noriko Sakai; mysterious, beautiful and full of dark secrets. Together they hunt a serial killer. A captivating debut. #Booked2018 #JapaneseThriller #Pop18 #favoritecolorintitle #FridayFlowersOnSaturday 😜

Just started this new to me #JapaneseThriller since my previous one (Malice) was a bail! I‘m only 40 pages in but already hooked. I am having difficulty keeping the characters & places straight 🙄If it doesn‘t click soon, I may need to create a cheat sheet

emilyhaldi Bummer. Did you ever even try this one? 6y
TieDyeDude I had a hard time with names when I started reading Out, but I was able to adjust fairly quickly 6y
Cinfhen I tried a different book by Murakami and could not get into it @emilyhaldi but Out sounds really good @GoodForCirculation and I‘m getting better with the names.... 6y

BarbaraBB @GoodForCirculation @Cinfhen Out is so good! For the Booked2018 prompt I bought 6y
Cinfhen Ooooh, that looks good @BarbaraBB I‘m really excited for the #JapaneseThriller prompt ~ I think we‘re gonna see some great new reads!!! 6y
Cathythoughts Sounds good. If a cheat sheet is a page with all the characters & who they are written down & consulted ..... well I am guilty almost all the time ( unless there are only 2 characters in a book ) 🤭 6y

A simple trip to the post office yielded this result🙄Library is next door to post office so I picked up 2
books for my #GARbingo and my book store is located across the street, so I had to stop in. There was some sort of deal, not sure exactly what but I ended up with the tagged book for free. And your packages are on their way @BarbaraBB @BookaholicNatty @kspenmoll @Elisa #HappyDay 😊
