The Kitchen Counter Cooking School
The Kitchen Counter Cooking School: How a Few Simple Lessons Transformed Nine Culinary Novices into Fearless Home Co oks | Kathleen Flinn
16 posts | 19 read | 38 to read
The author of the New York Times bestseller The Sharper Your Knife, The Less You Cry tells the inspiring story of how she helped nine others find their inner cook. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, writer Kathleen Flinn returned with no idea what to do next, until one day at a supermarket she watched a woman loading her cart with ultraprocessed foods. Flinn's "chefternal" instinct kicked in: she persuaded the stranger to reload with fresh foods, offering her simple recipes for healthy, easy meals. The Kitchen Counter Cooking School includes practical, healthy tips that boost readers' culinary self-confidence, and strategies to get the most from their grocery dollar, and simple recipes that get readers cooking. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Loved this! I could really relate to the other home cooks she talked to and taught. Definitely feel this was both a comforting and inspiring read. Thanks to @EvieBee for posting about it since that‘s why I read it!

This woman eats a pretty extreme diet of all processed food, but still - a cup and a half of sugar! Yikes. And also this picture isn‘t exactly pretty but I can‘t seem to get anything nicer together on here when I‘m reading an ebook 😕

Smrloomis @miralunasbooknook I know! It‘s crazy! 1y

My first roast chicken! And because of this book, it came out perfect. So easy! You don‘t even need a roasting pan. I know I‘ve said it a few times already but this book is essential.

This is the book that keeps on giving. Making my first vegetable broth from leftover scraps and veggies from the fridge that were on their way out. Flint described how broths, stocks and soups help clean out your fridge so you don‘t waste food. You should give it a try. Super easy! Also...can‘t recommend this book enough!

[DELETED] 3803335244 I love doing this! We do bone broth in the crock & it‘s yummy & healthy! Great idea, & no waste is great! 2y
EvieBee @ForeverNerdy I can‘t wait to try bone broth! Some people recommend roasting them and then boiling them. What do you recommend?! 2y
[DELETED] 3803335244 I do roast my grass feed beef bones (just browning) & vegetables but if I‘m using rotisserie chicken I just make it right after we eat it. I use the crockpot because I cook for 17-18 hours. Then we freeze it after it cools. If you add a little vinegar to it really does good! 2y

This book is amazing, as in life changing! I challenged myself to make a Thai inspired salmon dish tonight because of her quick aromatic and flavor cheat sheet. Cooking should be a joy! And now I feel more aware of how I should shop and waste less. Highly recommend! I went back and bought the Kindle book, too for easier reference. 👩🏽‍🍳👩🏽‍🍳👩🏽‍🍳👩🏽‍🍳👩🏽‍🍳

Here‘s the first recipe I‘ve made from this book, and it was delicious. We had yesterday‘s leftovers for lunch today. I present: Rustic Italian Farmhouse Zucchini “Sauce” with Penne. So simple, as the sauce is simply the cooked down juices from the zucchini thickened with some pasta water.

I‘ve been wanting to read this book for awhile! Can‘t think why I never checked #audible for the #audiobook but here it is! Enjoying it so much so far while cleaning house. I have been extremely flighty with audio lately. But this has held my attention.

Library book sale for the win! I've enjoyed every moment here on Cape Cod, but stumbling upon this sign in Hyannis was the icing. Only three books purchased 📚... such restraint!

BethFishReads Good restraint 3y
Suzze Three good ones though, I'll bet! 3y
Lakesidemusing @BethFishReads this may be a record for me! 3y
Lakesidemusing @Suzze Besides the one tagged, I got Giants in the Earth, which I've been meaning to read forever and was just talking about with someone here on Litsy, and Dollbaby, book I loved on audio. My sister and oldest daughter don't like listening, so I'll give this copy to them! 3y

I enjoyed this book! I believe she and her friends really did help out the people in this kitchen counter cooking school. I listened to this as an audio book, and although the narrator did a great job, I would recommend this as a book you would want to buy or check out rather than listen to, as there are quite a few recipes that are read. "Burnt Toast Makes You Sing Good " is still my favorite of hers as I loved that one, but this is also good.

MrBook Great review 😁👍🏻! 3y

I think I will have to buy a copy of this and transfer all my sticky notes before I return this to the library... Lots of tips and reminders... I have gotten so lazy in the kitchen

SusanInTiburon That is a very persuasive picture! 😋 3y
Bookquilter A lot of the markers are for basic tips, recipes, and names of other cookbooks...some are just thing that struck me as funny. 3y
