Today is October 1st, and it's my last day on Facebook. I'm so tired of the homophobia, bigotry, misogyny, white nationalism and just plain old HATE. The election of 2016 will be a drizzle compared to the $#!+storm that's coming in 2020. Life is too short for that kind of grief.

cobwebmoth I deleted my account a few weeks ago. I don't regret it. 5y
RamsFan1963 @cobwebmoth I wish I'd done it sooner. I only kept it because I use messenger to speak to my mom and friends out of the country. I can still use messenger if I deactive but not delete the account. 5y
GrilledCheeseSamurai 👏👏 I deleted my account 8 or 9 years ago and I've never ever missed it. I remember the first week without it was a little weird but after that...goodbye drama. 👍 5y

sprainedbrain Good for you! I deleted my account in December and haven‘t missed it once. 🙌🏻 5y
RainyDayReading I deactivated my account a little while ago and it felt so good! I never realized just how much negativity was feeding into my life little by little just by having Facebook. 5y
Birdsong28 I haven't been on for about a month now and I never felt better. 5y
Librarybelle A couple months ago, I took a step back. I deleted the app from my devices and only periodically log in by my computer. I feel so much better about it! There are a few friends and colleagues throughout the country that I connect with on FB, so I still want to use that to see photos and share conversations, but other than that, I‘m so over FB. 5y
Amiable I‘m headed in that direction, too. I‘ve kept it only to stay in touch with far-flung friends and family. I might try your suggestion, @Librarybelle 5y
Meaw_catlady After the 2016 election I basically quit Facebook. I kept it for messenger but I think I deleted around 100 friends at least ... it‘s so sad 5y
RamsFan1963 @Meaw_catlady Sadly the 2016 election was a real eye opener for me, I didnt realize how far apart I was from some of my friends, ideology speaking. People I took to be sane and rational were saying the most horrible things. It made me very sad. 5y
Redwritinghood I was never on there much, but I completely dropped out after the 2016 election. My midwestern relatives are awful on there. 5y
Meaw_catlady I wasn‘t surprised honestly by the comments and attitudes most of my “friends” were posting to FBook . I was really big into Fbook in college and I went to a conservative Christian college. My thoughts and opinions changed drastically after leaving college and I‘m not mad about it. I‘m free from a lot of hate and feel so much more happy!! 5y

I know lots of people use it, but I'm really concerned about what has been happening with Facebook. I deleted it almost a year ago (full on delete that they hide the link to in their help pages...) but because Instagram is now a part of them I'm tempted to get rid of that too. I'm just grateful for Litsy and hope the take over doesn't change it too much. I love the simple layout and easy way of communicating. And lack of ads! #litsy #librarything

laurieluna Just to add as well, some on Facebook are commenting on wanting posts to just be 'book-exclusive'. One of the reasons I love Litsy is because it is a community, where I get to talk to and support all of the wonderful friends I have made. Yes it centres around books, it's the one thing we all have in common. But also being able to discuss our lives in a safe space is amazing. It's what many other platforms lack. 6y
Redwritinghood I haven‘t deleted my Facebook, instagram or Twitter accounts, but I rarely use them. I keep my Facebook private. 6y
laurieluna @Redwritinghood mine was private too. But Facebook still held that information and could pass it on, even if strangers online couldn't see it. That's what worried me and prompted me to delete it. I think it depends how much you share on there. My feed was littered with ads that had been aimed at me due to the info on my profile. I don't use twitter due to the sheer amount of negativity on there. X 6y

quietlycuriouskate I deleted my Facebook account about six months ago. It took a lot of digging around to find out how to do it though: they really don't want to let people go! And then they turned on the emotional blackmail... 😬 I've still got Twitter and Instagram but I rarely use them these days. 6y
laurieluna @River_Voice yeah I had to google how to do it! They only deactivated it at first then sent me emails for 2 whole weeks before they started the actual deletion process. I did it last April. What pushed me was all the ads and propaganda, and also how frequently I saw pics of kids I didn't even know on my feed. My profile was private but it still made me wonder about the boys safety, that's why I left. I cover their faces here. 6y
laurieluna @River_Voice also how angry people got at things that don't even affect them. 😬 It's all gone a bit crazy on there. 6y
quietlycuriouskate Sounds familiar! They showed me pictures of my friends, saying "So and so will miss you if you go"! Meanwhile, these same friends said they never saw my posts because, presumably, fb' s algorithm determined I lacked sufficient clout. (That's a whole different level of scary about your boys and I totally understand your concern.) 6y
laurieluna @River_Voice oh yes got all that too. I wonder how many people use Facebook as picture storage as well. I've started making physical albums of my photos because of how much I was relying on the internet to store them. Servers go down, data is lost, people hack into companies. I probably sound like I should wear a tin foil hat but you just don't know who has access...😕 6y
AmyG I just deactivated. I‘d just had it with Facebook. I don‘t trust them at all. @Miralunasbooknook And I make little picture books with favorite photos...Costco. (edited) 6y
laurieluna @AmyG eve with deactivation all of your stuff that you have posted is still stored. But I suppose it give you the option to go back *if* it ever changes it's ways. I just think they've been given too much power. I love sitting and putting my albums together! I find I look at my photos more having the albums there on the shelf 😊 6y
laurieluna My goodness my grammar was terrible in that reply. *even *gives *its 6y
AmyG @miralunasbooknook Ha...grammar shrammar. ;) I know my info is still there, but I just don‘t want to be a part of Facebook and their sh**ty forum anymore. My sister started making these books and my her grandkids look at them all the time. These picture books...BOOKS. The best kind of books. ❤️ 6y
sudi @miralunasbooknook i deactivated facebook, but now they have acquired instagram, there's no escape😞 6y
laurieluna @sudi I'm so close to getting rid of insta too. Just need to wind down my bookstagram and finish some reviews! 6y
Sophoclessweetheart This really unnerves me and I‘m preparing to fully move here at this moment x 6y
PirateJenny @sudi they‘ve had IG for many years now though. 6y
sudi @PirateJenny yeah, i know but they keep messing with the features, they blatantly copied snapchat with just doesn't make sense, because now all the apps seem similar. And they changed the feed, which keeps showing photos in non chronological order. I feel like facebook had a major part in messing it up. 6y
laurieluna @sudi they have. Its only in the past year, as when I joined in april it was fine, no ads, posts all in order. And now they've just introduced that shopping feature, just like they did with Facebook business profiles. 😩 6y
sudi @miralunasbooknook exactly, i gave up on facebook a long time ago, instagram and snapchat were the only social media i used. And now facebook is hell-bent on ruining instagram too😞 6y
RaimeyGallant I fell out of love with FB so long ago. 6y
laurieluna @RaimeyGallant I deleted completely my private insta this morning. I'll be winding down my bookstagram over the next week. Annoyingly most of my friends organise events via facebook. It's the only reason my partner still has one, so we don't miss anything! 6y
RaimeyGallant I never got into insta, and I keep wondering if I should do a bookstagram. 6y
laurieluna @RaimeyGallant it's all owned by Facebook. It's now got ads, mixed up time line, and they're adding in shopping features like they did with Facebook. Again our information being used to target us and sell us stuff. Businesses I follow do releases or flash sales but I miss them because I only see the post 2 days later 😔 6y
RaimeyGallant Uncool. 6y

Another quick challenge today. Let's spread the word about Litsy on Facebook using the #Litsy and #FacebookLittens hashtags. I shared this link, which contains my #LitsyTips:

Saw this on Facebook and it made me chuckle. I also tried to read it without Sir Mix-A-Lot's influence and failed miserably. 🎶

Facebook also has a fundamental characteristic that has proven key to its appeal in country after country—you only see friends there.
