This series of creepy horror tales was buy one/get one free at Barnes & Noble yesterday.
Had to get four so I can validate the Creep-O-Meter!
My daughter wants to read a level 1 — Sleep Like A Baby! 😂 I didn‘t see any of those; the tagged title is # 1 in the series ... starting us off with Hide Under the Covers.

So the title had some issues, but this is the Usborne Graphic Classics edition of Dracula. I‘m hoping it‘s done well but I haven‘t read the original in so long. I might need to follow this up with Bram Stoker.

My 5th grade daughter is using Scratch to write a story for her library class. I‘m a middle school librarian and somehow didn‘t know about this 😐
Now that I DO know about it, I want to get creative and partner with some teachers. But first .... I need to read this book .... and ask my daughter to teach me the basics! 😊

They‘re calling this a graphic novel. I‘m struggling hard to see that format represented here....🤷🏻‍♀️ Am I the only one? I don‘t think I will be shelving this with my graphic novels.

My daughter just told me they got it wrong.

LibrarianRyan I tried to read this. It kept freezing my iPad. It‘s not a standard graphic novel as you generally think of them. But I do think it‘s a graphic representation of the original work. Admittedly I only got through 50 pages before I gave up to seek a print copy. 2mo
Peddler410 @LibrarianRyan I think of it as illustrated novel. Thumbing through there are a handful of panels and very occasional speech bubbles. The amount of text is going to keep me from putting this in graphic novels 2mo

This gets a pick from me. I was captivated enough by the story to want to get back to it each time life interrupted.

As for the horror element, meh. The author has been described as the “teen‘s Stephan King”. I would bill this more as a step-up from Mary Downing Hahn.

The Haunting of Sunshine Girl was much more terrifying—for me.

Still, a good story that I think my middle schools will enjoy.

LibrarianRyan Middle school really. She normally falls in HS level. Good to know. I agree about the Steven King thing. I would almost say even to a step down from MDH. But I may just be jaded from adult horror. 4mo
Peddler410 @LibrarianRyan I said step above because of the language and drinking. I haven‘t read anything else by her so.... 4mo
LibrarianRyan @Peddler410 Ahh okay. Her Merciless series falls squarley in HS. You could find it in middle schools, and while i am incredibly libral on my recommending, i wouldn't recommend them for MS, only HS. Not for the horror, but sex, drinking, etc. 4mo

Fred Korematsu spoke up against Japanese American internment during WWII. This doesn‘t get covered enough with all the Holocaust education in middle schools. I‘m glad this book is one of the State book award nominees in IL.

Fred‘s story is told in free verse at the start of each chapter, followed by phots, historical content and a timeline of events for each chapter.

After SEVEN HOURS of driving to the Omaha Zoo, I managed 17,800+ steps today!

Steps: 4/7
Books: well over my goal of 15 for the six weeks (BBRC)
Water: hit my goal every day
Tracking food: can‘t seem to get it done
Sleep: 4/7

While on vacation, some days will be lots of driving, some lots of walking. Not sure how to set that goal.

Good luck all in the new week. #fitwizards

Books finished since beginning — 29, I‘m doing the #bbrc so my reading goal might change

This image shows my best day #bfcr2

Our library is a 1.1 mile walk; my daughter (⬆️) logged 2 more miles in her quest to her first kids marathon. And that means I racked up many extra steps 😊.

For the week, I managed 5/7 days on my step goal; 0/3 tracking food — try again next week; books— the #bbrc is making that goal a breeze so I will need to re-evaluate; sleep goal — got to bed by 10:30 5/7 nights.
