The First Dinosaur
The First Dinosaur: How Science Solved the Greatest Mystery on Earth | Ian Lendler
3 posts | 2 read
Join early scientists as they piece together one of humanitys greatest puzzlesthe fossilized bones of the first dinosaur! Dinosaurs existed. Thats a fact we accept today. But not so long ago, the concept that these giant creatures could have roamed Earth millions of years before humans was unfathomable. People thought what we know as dinosaur bones were the bones of giant humans. Of large elephants. Of angels, even. So, how did we get from angel wings to the T-Rex? The First Dinosaur tells the story of the idea of dinosaurs, and the chain of fossil discoveries and advances in science that led to that idea. Be prepared to meet eccentric men and overlooked women who uncovered the pieces to a puzzle so much bigger than themselves, a puzzle far stranger and more spectacular than they could have ever imagined.

This book isn‘t just about the first dinosaur discovered, the Megalosaurus, it goes into depth and describes what other discoveries, advancements in knowledge, and the people who made the discovery possible. It‘s easy to read, understand, and a must read for those young and adult readers interested in dinosaurs. You also get to learn about some of the important women in the process who usually get left out from history.

I usually like to consume my nonfiction reads in audiobook format, but I‘m finding this book quite enjoyable in print form. The illustrations, excerpts, charts, and pictures compliment the information quite well. When I was a kid I wanted to be a paleontologist...but it wasn‘t something that a girl of poor Mexican immigrant parents who lived in a not-so-great part of Chicago did, so I wasn‘t encouraged to pursue that dream. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Butterfinger Her plans are to go to NC State and then transfer to Austin. I hate that you didn't get the encouragement you needed. 3y
TheBookAddict @Butterfinger that‘s great, I wish her the best 🙂👍🏽. Me too, but it‘s ok. It‘s in the past and I still, for the most part, enjoy what I do now. 3y
TheBookAddict @UwannaPublishme thank you very much! We are, just a bit cold with all the slushy snow we got yesterday evening, night, and this morning 😆. What can you do, it is northern Illinois after all. I hope you and yours are doing well too. 😊 Happy Holidays! 🎄💜💜 3y
UwannaPublishme Brrr! Enjoy the holidays and stay warm, my friend. ⛄️It‘s 60s here and I‘m still cold. 😁 3y
TheBookAddict @UwannaPublishme 😆 that sounds wonderful...yeah, that‘s good shorts and flip flop weather. I will, thank you and you too. Don‘t get too cold out there, I may have to crochet you a hat if it gets below 60 😝. Stay safe. 3y

Stumbled across this one at the library last week.

I never really thought about the road to the first dinosaur. The narrative non-fiction feel makes this an accessible read, even if you never went through a dinosaur obsession.
