Can't Hurt Me
Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds | David Goggins
18 posts | 15 read | 5 to read
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare - poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him The Fittest (Real) Man in America. In Can't Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.

Mixed feelings. There are times it's a book where I think it's amazing and loved the personal Revelations that I got from it but there are times when the book is not interesting. The actual voice of the main character is too irritating as they swear a lot so be prepared

I can't put into words how inspiring the life story of David Goggins is, so I'll borrow the words of his fellow retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, who said of Goggins, "There's no way to stop something or someone that doesn't understand the concept of being beat."

I wish this was more Autobiography and less self help. Interesting biography of a man who had a rough childhood, who grew up to be the only man to complete Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller Training. The Motivational Self-Help aspect eventually devolves into “I, I, Me, Me, aren‘t I wonderful, and if you‘d do like I do, you‘d be wonderful, too.” Like most motivational books do. Which May be true, but it gets repetitive.

Enjoyed this #audiobook Read by the ghost writer and with Goggins' commentary at the end of each chapter, it's part podcast, part audiobook. Goggins' story is one of a kind. He is the harbinger of owning your shit. Not a popular opinion but certainly thought provoking. I did find the audiobook a little long in the tooth and found my interest waning toward the climax. Mad respect for Goggins, though.
