This book was suggested to me by a friend. Sometimes I love poetry, sometimes I don't. I enjoyed more poems in this collection than I thought I would. The book is broken into 5 sections:
WILTING
FALLING
ROOTING
RISING
BLOOMING

Some poems worth giving a 2nd or 3rd look. Must be in the right mindspace.

It was an interesting read. I completed the book in less than a day...I'll probably go back and examine a few of the poems in more detail.

I can appreciate this book. Claire Danes narration made it more palatable. It did not make me like Atwood, particularly. I am interested in seeing the cinematic version of it in April on Hulu.

tpixie I'm reading/ listening now. Yes it's pretty dry. Claire Danes does help 7y

I love Sherlock Holmes, but rarely in book form. I have a patience issue and I don't like the feeling of stress while we figure out "who done it". This book gave me that feeling, but it was greatly compelling. It is the story of the great, great, great daughter of Sherlock and the great, great, great grandson of Watson who attend the same boarding school and fall in the family business of solving crimes. It is a gritty YA novel. 1st in the series.

This was a nice gifty that arrived with this month's BOTM pick. This was a twisty little bit of a book. Written by Gillian Flynn - not an author I am a fan of in general...but if she were to write a collection of short stories, I believe I would read everything she writes. Very fast read, less than an hour. This one kept me intrigued from page 1 to page 62. Jason (the fiance) is reading it now!

The 3rd in the Royal trilogy. A mystery ruled the whole of this book, it kept my interest. I liked it more than the 2nd book but less than the 1st.

This 2nd in the Royal trilogy was slightly less intriguing than the first, but I also completed this one in one sitting. Looking forward to tackling the final book tomorrow.

Great YA story about 2 gay teens forging a lasting friendship and coming to terms with love and their futures. A snapshot into a week of their lives. Loved it! So happy to have have 4 days off in a row to catch up on reading. 2 books down...maybe I can get 1 or 2 more in.

I finally read it...it was good, though still not getting the hype. Maybe book two will shed some light.

ballina It's a great book series, it just depends when you read it. I read it when I was 9 for the first time and it was magic on earth, I continue re-reading the series and I notice small loopholes and such but the more you read it the more attached you become. :) 7y
Ruri_kaichou If you continue with the series, read to at least the third book. Chamber of Secrets tends to be the least favorite for a lot of people (me included), but Prisoner of Azkaban is really good! 7y
Handmade_Redhead I wanted to love this series. So many cute crafts, graphics, etc. It's not bad, just not for me. 7y
deefig @ballina, I was 27 when the first book was released. I bought it because I've always loved YA...but it was much more middle grade. I had my daughter 2 years after the first book was released, she started reading them at age 9 as well, and she loves them. I'm in the middle of book 2. I suspend my disbelief where clear potholes exist. 7y

I heard today that Gloria Naylor passed away. This book was released when I was 11 years old and I read it when I was 15... probably too young - bit it had a profound impact on me. The characters in this book were richly written, though Oprah received some flack for adapting it, I blame the times - there were themes in the book that were too heavy for TV, even in the late 80s. RIP Gloria Naylor.

After hearing about the death of Gloria Naylor, I reflected back to this book. This book explores the internal prejudices that black people sometimes have towards one another. I read it many, many years ago but it resonates deeply. RIP Gloria Naylor.

8little_paws We play Scrabble a lot. My boyfriend is renovating a closed down bar into a new restaurant (he owns contacting business) and the bar was my old haunt about 12 years ago when I used to live down the street from it. So when they started the demo, he took the Scrabble set from the bar and gave it to me! 8y

The second in the Discovery of Witches series. Witches, daemons and vampires - oh my! None of them sparkle and all of the characters are PhD level professionals. This book is at turns funny, a little scary and very academic. There's also a love story - but with grown ass adults (I do love my YA as well). I love that this is a story (series) about what makes us human.

JanuarieTimewalker13 I got my name from this series...I used Timewalker and also there was Januarie in old English and I loved it!! I started BOL, but did not complete it, must get back to that!! 8y

Ok...tell me why you think I should read this series. I have read half of the first book. My daughter had read them all, multiple times. I've never seen a film. I love spec fic, wizards, magical realism...why can't I connect to this little boy and his trials and tribulations?

SarahSaysRead The first book can feel a bit slow, since the target audience is a lot younger. But the plots and complexity grow with each book, and man, I just love it. So many fabulous characters. 8y
451Degrees I agree with @SarahSaysRead the first book feels like it should be for a younger crowd and you don't feel that pull to continue quite as much as you do once you get to the next ones. Chamber of Secrets was also a tough one for me but Prisoner of Azkaban was one of my favorites of the series! 8y
Ruri_kaichou It's really does pick up once you get to Prisoner of Azkaban. The first 2 are now directed to children. But like Harry, the books mature as well. And try the audiobooks! There are 2 versions, one with Jim Dale and one with Stephen Fry 8y

Difficult to read, self-indulgent, unreliable narrators. I felt nothing but a strong dislike for the main characters...I put this one down 3 or 4 times before I was able to finally finish it. I would normally bail, but so many of my well-respected books friends LOVED this book - I thought I was just missing something. Nope...it was terrible.

Post-apocalyptic story about the end of the world as we know it. Told from the point of view of several narrators whose stories intersect at the tragedy thst is the Georgia Flu. The story flows well and covers several years into the "new world". Quite compelling.

I adore this book and I think back on it frequently and with fondness. The pitting of magicians, trained by rivals, against one another made for a fascinating read. Morgenstern is such a descriptive writer that I could picture the tents, the characters and the magic. I know a film has been in development for some time.

Merethebookgal I love this one as well! Her descriptions of the tents are wonderful- I wish it was a real place! 8y
