Two Can Keep a Secret | Karen M. Mcmanus

Echo Ridge may appear perfect to outsiders, but Ellery quickly learns that it's hiding many secrets--especially when it comes to the many disappearances of girls. Twisty and full of fascinating characters, this book will keep you on your toes until the very end.

War Storm | Victoria Aveyard

Mehso-so

War Storm certainly wraps up the series nicely, but still leaves room for the imagination at the end. Once you're invested in the story, you'll definitely want to keep going in War Storm, even if the length is a bit daunting. Red Queen is still the best book in the series, in my opinion, but this is a worthy follow up.

After 4 months, I finally finished the audiobook! The narration was probably the best part, though I also liked the extra details that you don't get in the show. Definitely check it out!

Tahereh Mafi creates new intrigue in this extension of the #ShatterMe series. We get more from characters we love, and though Juliette gets a bit annoying at times, Warner's chapters and the extra world building is worth it.

The follow up to Shatter Me, and Tahereh Mafi still doesn't disappoint. She complicates the idea of a "bad guy" in this one and I love how our perception of certain characters slowly changes through the book.

Tahereh Mafi skillfully pulls you into Juliette's world, supplemented by a forbidden romance that makes you empathize with Juliette. When your touch kills, how can you ever be in a relationship?

A great introduction to a new dystopian world.

And She Was | Jessica Verdi

This book follows the story of Dara, a recent high school graduate who finds out her mother is transgender. There were moments of this book that made me cringe--but I think that was the point. You can tell that Verdi did her research, and her overall portrayal of Dara's Mom feels authentic.

Have you read the Divergent trilogy? What did you think? It's not my favorite series, but the first book was promising. Veronica Roth also has a new book that came out yesterday that I'm kinda intrigued about. Definitely adding to my TBR!

jwashreads The new one out is the second in a new series. It's sci fi rather than dystopian, but the first one was pretty good. 6y
Between-the-Shelves @jwashreads Good to know! I think she said it was only going to be two books, so now I might give it a try now that they're both out! 6y

Evan Panos doesn't fit in. His mom thinks he's a disappointment. His dad avoids conflict. And after his summer with Gaige, Evan can't stop thinking about his best friend Henry.

There were parts of this book that were hard to read--specifically the scenes with Evan and his mother. But the story itself is important and infused with deep, raw emotion that will make you root for Evan. An important read about finding family and identity.

Wow. What a dark children's book. Smy does a fantastic job curating a tense, creepy atmosphere in both the text and the images. The two stories are closely woven together, and they feed into each other really well.

While aspects of this felt a bit predictable, overall I liked that Day and June's story wasn't completely resolved. There was room at the end for you to imagine what happens, which is one of my favorite kinds of endings for a series. The series overall definitely didn't disappoint.

Not only is this book fast-paced, its characters are also well-developed and contribute a lot to the world-building. June is someone who's been groomed by the Republic, so we're able to see a lot of their beliefs and values in her, especially in the beginning. We're able to also see the negative side of the Republic though Day, who has only been hurt by the government who is supposed to be protecting their people. 4.5/5 stars
