This is my 4th book by Erik Larson and probably my favorite. It read more like a novel than a non fiction book about the rise of Hitler‘s government in Berlin and the American Ambassador who seemed to be one of the few who understood what was really going on at the time.

When Emmett Watson returns home to Nebraska after serving 15 months at a juvenile work camp, all he wants to do is settle his father‘s estate and move with his little brother Billy to California for a fresh start. But his 2 friends from the camp who stow away in the warden‘s car have other plans. I loved this and I love how Towles writes his characters. I could have kept reading about them for another 500+ pages.

Bob tells us how to love everyone, always. Not just the people we agree with or are like us. Those we don‘t understand, disagree with, or like. The difficult people. Everyone. Always. It‘s putting faith in action. Not just agreeing with what Jesus says but actually doing. It‘s not easy to do but it‘s a message that is very needed.
