My weekend. Still have around 72 boxes more to unpack. Meanwhile, working on an entire shelf filled with only women writers - predominantly women of colour. #WomenReadWomen2019 at GatheringBooks.

Repost for @GatheringBooks :

#WomenReadWomen2019 Question 2 of 3 is here! The book tackled issues of im/migration, self and identity, and crossing geographical/linguistic/cultural boundaries quite fearlessly. Looking forward to your responses to this one. Just indicate spoiler if your responses will be fairly detailed.

Thanks to @andrew61 for putting this book on my radar. Told in multiple POVs, Stella a young indigenous mother, witnesses a crime through her window but based on both her heritage and location it‘s nearly 4 hours before the police arrive bringing with them their own prejudices. It‘s an honest but bleak look at stereotypes, cultural differences and unacceptable norms, cycles of violence & aggression especially towards native women. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Reagan-reads Great review! This has been on my list for a while but I‘ll have to bump it up! 3w
Cinfhen I hope you do @Reagan-reads It was a powerful read and a real page turner 3w

Thanks to @youneverarrived for co-hosting #NYRBBookClub September's selection. Thanks to everyone in the group for a thorough & lively discussion yesterday! I'm looking forward to co-hosting October with one of the first Littens I ever interacted with @LeahBergen I can't wait to see your choices for November @Leftcoastzen !

MicheleinPhilly I will read this one! I‘ve been slacking BIGLY. 3w
GatheringBooks Thanks for this! Unfortunately, I will have to skip this title again because of our #WomenReadWomen2019 theme, but will still follow closely and watch from afar, until the next title. 3w

sisilia I‘m a bit scared to read this. Must I put it in the freezer when things go wild? 😅@vivastory @MicheleinPhilly @saresmoore @batsy @Aimeesue @Leftcoastzen @Liz_M @LeahBergen @sprainedbrain 3w
sprainedbrain @sisilia the freezer is always an option! 😂 3w
Leftcoastzen @sisilia 😂Freezer book! I may have to do that! This book has been on my radar for years , glad I have some reading partners for it. 3w
Leftcoastzen @sprainedbrain if you have a little paperback exchange in your town, the old mass market might be sitting there. 3w
sprainedbrain @Leftcoastzen I‘m thinking pretty seriously about doing the Audible free trial and listening to it. 😬 3w
Leftcoastzen @sprainedbrain understand your frustration, I don‘t have audible cuz I don‘t listen enough to make it pay..free trial tempting when you are in a jam. 3w

#WomenReadWomen2019 Discussion Question 1 out of 3 is here for September book! You can put spoilers in your responses if you feel that it is too detailed. I tried to keep the Qs pretty generic to avoid the spoiler mark. :) Looking forward to reading your responses!

Laughterhp I‘m only about 80 pages into this book 😬😬 I‘ve fallen so behind on my books 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 3w

#unpopularopinion I didn‘t connect with this book, and I‘m not sure if it‘s the writing, the translation or me. I‘ve a strong feeling that it‘s me. I put this book on hold 2 weeks ago, in the hope that I would want to know what happened with Sunja and start reading again, but that didn‘t happen. So the book is going back to the library and hopefully I‘ll be in the right mood to read it at an other time.

GatheringBooks awww, too bad. 😢 What was it that made you abandon it? Thank you for joining though. 3w
AnneCecilie @GatheringBooks it‘s hard to explain, but I can usually tell by the 1st p if I‘m reading a new favorite, a book I‘m going to love or an okay read. There‘s something in the writing I guess that just connects with me and draws me in. I gave this book 117 p and I didn‘t care what happens with the characters. It might have been the wrong time for an almost 600p book, that takes its time when I‘ve been going through a period where I‘m extremely tired (edited) 3w
GatheringBooks @AnneCecilie ah, that happens sometimes. it took me a fair bit to get into this one as well. but once i sank my teeth into, everything just flowed. there are unexpected twists in the middle and the end that made me go 😱😱😱 :) Hopefully, the next few books will resonate better with you! 💕🧚🏼‍♀️📚 3w
AnneCecilie @GatheringBooks chunksers usually take their time to develop the plot and when you‘re fighting sleep, that‘s just not a good combination. I hope to pick it up in the future, at a better time, and hopefully I‘ll enjoy it then. It‘s definitely a me-type book. 3w
