An incredibly valuable resource for those who have no background in the historic conflict, up to modern day. Very clear in laying out events chronologically, does not shy away from identifying unjust actions. Attempts to identify a path to peace, even while acknowledging how far away it may be given the most recent events at time of publication.

Robotswithpersonality The last thing the current situation needs is another now slightly less clueless Westerner weighing in on the discourse, but having absorbed all that was detailed in this book, at least up to October 2023, the evidence of violence on both sides, the overwhelming evidence of colonialism and oppression suffered by Palestinians under Israeli military rule, even as a portion of Israeli journalists, academics, activists, fight for Palestinian rights, possibility of their own state. I am grateful to hear recent news of Canada halting the sale of arms to Israel, and simultaneously understand why activists see it as a watered-down statement of support. Per the author: pressure from the international community is key. 🇵🇸 2mo

Holy ####, this was so good! It probably had something to do with the six cups of whole milk?

I‘ve never seen the pasta shape called for in the grocery store so I used another recommended shape and there wasn‘t enough. Next time, I‘d do 1.5x the amount of pasta and freeze half for another dinner. This also reheated way better than any other Mac and cheese I‘ve ever made.

Eighth recipe for #MtCookbook

Tamra Oh my, I would love it - harissa! 😋 2mo
janeycanuck @Tamra I am not one for spice but OMG, so good! I don‘t think I‘ve dropped the recipe in that shared doc but I will later today. You could easily adjust the spice level up, if you wanted a bit more. 2mo
Tamra @janeycanuck I feel so bad, neither have I! 2mo
mabell Harissa is so good! We just whipped feta and harissa, and it was fabulous. We will definitely have to make this pasta! 2mo
janeycanuck @mabell I still haven‘t gotten the recipe in but definitely in the next day or two! Definitely try this one! 2mo

The Arabs: A History | Eugene Rogan

I‘d watched the multi-part Al Jazeera ‘al nakba‘ and was so impressed by an interviewee speaking fluent Arabic that I looked him up and bought his book. It is a wonderful work spanning the Ottoman occupations (1500‘s) to the mid 00‘s, utilising a vast amount of Arabic material rather than a usual western-heavy approach. Learned so much. If you‘re interested in the region and it‘s events, relevant to us all in many ways - please check this one out.

A comprehensive guide to understanding the Israel-Palestine conflict. Includes in-depth research and a complete history of the land, how the conflict began, its ensuing developments, the political involvement by United States and the West, and also includes references to the October 07, 2023 war. It is required reading for anyone interested in having an unfiltered, unbiased understanding of the crisis in Palestine, and of the 2023 war.

#LuckyInLove Day 13: Pearls make lovely #Jewelry. I find this story to be a glimpse into the Arabian culture and their practices while at sea, their continued devotion to prayer, and the willingness to impart knowledge to a son who is expected to be the family‘s “little man.” My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-f8T

I‘m not a brittle fan and I don‘t handle spice well but this is right up my husband‘s alley so I made it for him to take on his ski weekend with his buddies. It didn‘t have a lot of kick to it but the spice is sprinkled on top so easy to adjust for taste!

#currentlyreading two serious books on varied subjects, each a dire theme of the world today. Being Mortal gives me goosebumps and keeps me up at night, while History of Israel and Palestine is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the genesis and development of the current Israel-Hamas war.

First recipe down for #MtCookbook! Some rejigging of the meal plan meant we needed another side dish so I made the Rainbow Roasted Carrots (with pomegranate molasses) from Flavors Of The Sun and they were SO GOOD. Definitely going into our regular rotation!!

Tamra Ooooooo pomegranate molasses?! I‘ve always wanted to try it, but not sure where to get it. (I‘d probably have to order it.) 4mo
GinaKButler Looks so yummy! 4mo

janeycanuck @Tamra I got our current bottle from a spice shop but I‘ve also seen it at a middle eastern grocery store we have in our city. It might also be called pomegranate syrup. 4mo
janeycanuck @GinaKButler @mabell And quite easy to make, too! Love those kinds of recipes!! 4mo
intothehallofbooks I‘ve never heard of pomegranate molasses but it sounds fantastic and I want some! 4mo
janeycanuck @intothehallofbooks Get some! It‘s great. A bit tart but also sweet. A lot of recipes in this cookbook use it, it‘s a great book! 4mo
